Had a feww questions people, I've had my backcombed dreads about 5months now and i was wondering do the roots eventually grow into a dread, or is it something that continously needs work?

Also, i have alot of fluff at the back of my head and it looks absolutly shocking in comparision to the front and sides which are looking quite knotty :) Should i keep backcombing and persisting with it, or just leave it be and let it work it's magic.

I've defitnely got a love-hate relationship going on with my locks.. wouldn't change 'em for the world though mind :)

I'm having the same issues with my locks. They are now 2.5 months old & the sides and front are going along just fine, but the back is always very piecey and doesn't want to knot up. I've just been leaving them alone and the back is starting to knot up, slowly but surely. I haven't re-backcombed at all since the 1st time. I've notice that they knot up more after a good washing, so I try to wash every 3 days. Last night I tried laying down on my pillow and I pulled my hair up so that my head wasn't lying on it, that seemed to tighten the back and underneath some.

    Good luck!

Hmm this is what i can't seem to work out. I used to wash them about the same as you 3-4 days or so. But recently i've cut back, and i've been trying to increase time between washes. 1-2 Weeks or so. After washing them after long they seem to be ALOT tighter. Just getting annoying with the fluff at the back. It's all part of the fun though i guess :p

Have you tried clockwise root-rubbing? I do it just after washing, while hair is still very damp, then palm roll. It has worked a treat for me!

rub anything 100% wool on your head ALOT. I swear this is like magic. If you have patience you can even grab each dread by the root with the wool fabric and rub against your skill, this will keep the knotting concentrated on one spot rather than rubbing all over and having hair from every which way join into dreads you'd rather they not. And sleep on a fleece pillowcase. or with a wool tam on.

Why does wool help? I heard this and started rubbing clockwise with a wool hat and sleeping with it on and they seem alot tighter. Just wondered how it worked!

the fibers in the wool are more coarse and grab the hair more....if you rubbed silk on your head it wouldn't work because the fibers are so thin and smoothe.
