Liberty means not have the need to know the unknown, yet lets you free to try to know the unknown. When you know the unknown perhaps you don't have the liberty to get rid of that knowledge again. I don't know that for sure though.
It means having enough confidence and belief in yourself that you will search for the unknown, despite knowing full well that you may never find the answers.
Liberty is a political buzzword to keep people under control and which to hide behind (uh, is my english correct in this sentence? Too complex perhaps, hehe.. sorry) all the imprisonment that is done to the people. Essentially, I suppose that word should represent rights and freedom (yes, these are such buzzwords also.. typical double-talk in true Orwellian sense. Talk about truth when you lie, talk about god when you worship satan, talk about freedom when you imprison, talk about liberty when you oppress...). I think a good way to implement freedom/liberty would be to 'give' everyone rights to do whatever they wish in whatever manner they wish as long as they don't interfere with other's rights to the same. (of course after all basic rights have been properly given to everyone - like right to eat nutritious, healthy and good food every day, right to rest enough in comfortable circumstances, right to privacy etc etc).. - Vortac
Freedom, following some humanist rules. I mean, it wouldn't be right to allow complete freedom for a person who desires to kill others, or to rape, or whatever that hurts others. It isn't so simple to just say "Let's give everyone the freedom.", because even when we think murdering people is wrong, killing-obsessed person may think there's nothing wrong in what he or she does. Laws aren't freedom, but some are needed to have peace along freedom. Animals are free, they only follow the rule of the Nature, but unlike our relatives in forests and seas, we have this intelligence. We also flow with the Nature, but our brains make us doing things that takes others liberties away. Freedom is the right to be, in harmony respecting other living beings. But I'm pessimist, or realist, and believe there will never be such freedom, because human is what he is. Beast with an intelligence, with possibility to be more savage than any other animal. I don't fear animals. If a bear tries to attack me in forest, I'm frightened of course, but I know it does it because it gets frightened of my approach and want's to protect itself or its brood. If a human attacks me, there are dark emotions burning in his minds, a true will to hurt other, hate. Human is only animal I fear.
