I had my dreads done 2 weeks ago with a crochet hook, were originally very tight but have since loosened a lot, so much so in fact that quite a lot of my hairs are unravelling from the dreads - is this normal? Is there any way I can get them back in? Do I just leave them or what? Cheers, Dom.

I'll post a pic when I get home, they were started with a crochet hook, looked really good, but now I have just a few strands of normal hair like hanging just normally beside a few of the dreads where it has come out whilst I've been sleeping on it you know?

I had mine done 5 weeks today (Woo) and they looked great for about a week and then they started to loosen alot. I think its the process but i dont fully understand what you mean with the hook. I get to go back next week for her to tidy them up and then i can finally wash my hair. Will that make my hair tighten and start to lock? Sorry for taking over your thread! :p

You haven't washed your hair in 5 weeks? Someone gave you bad instructions. Washing would be keeping them more together. Because you have left your hair chill in it's natural oils for so long they have become more slippery and more apt to fall out. The washing process actually helps them tighten up. I just washed mine last night... SO much better today!

Thats what people have said but she just sed don't do anything to it and leave it alone. Apart from palm rolling it. It was horrible as i used to wash my hair daily or every other day. I go back next week so i shall hold out for one last week. I will keep you updated though!

The oils in your hair will make knots slip right out...keep your hair clean! Oils form naturally, but too much oil does your dreads a disservice.

Also.... if I wait too long to wash my hair, my face will start to break out with all the oil transfer from my hair to my face and my hands to my hair to my face.

soap that doesnt have residues. Natural soaps are the best, you can just rub a bar on your head. Tea Tree oil is wicked for itchies. local made soap would be the best. i think your from the UK you could look for a lush store, they have awsome soaps. and i think the company is based in the UK and has stores everywhere. I would also sugest washing your hair more often. Its still just hair and you need to take care of it. so many people think that dreadlocks are dirty and unwashed, but they best ones are clean. no wax, natural soaps and beads! it will all work out.

Kingdom...you will almost always have loose hairs. My hair has been dreading for two and a half years...and I still have tons of loose hair. It happens.

www.dreadworx.co.uk sells bronners and other good dread soaps and are relieable (i order my bronners from there). another good soap they sell is dread fx but its abit more expensive, i like it though.

as far as lush goes pretty much all there soaps contain sls (i have a bar of demon in the dark soap which smells really good and i sometimes wash my hair with it on special occasions where it smelling obviously nice would be good)

I was also in a health shop the other day and they had loads of natural residue free shampoos/conditioners/soaps which looked useful, but make sure you check the ingredients on the packaging as some werent as natural as they made themselves out to be. Im assuming you could find alot of good stuff in Holland and Barrett if you have one near you.

mods:far as that link goes im not trying to spam, just help the guy out but if the link has to go feel free to remove it.

Washed my hair with some shampoo from holland and barretts. Some tea tree oil shampoo and my gosh, tea tree oil smells so bad in my opinion. lol. What do i do with my hair now. When i went back to have my dreads "tidyed" up, she sed don't was them for another 6 weeks. I couldnt believe it. So i took the advice of this forum and washed them this morning. Just hoping they wont all fall apart now. And how do i dry them? lol
