Every night on TV we get bullshit propoganda about how the U.S government and Britain are hand in hand like a couple of gay nazis exploiting the world. We know all about American policies, murder rates, TV shows, etc etc etc - dont it strike you as somehow a load of shit - we aree Europeans - why arent we seeing more news about European policy and our relationships with European countries. I dont want to know what some idiot in the usa thinks about a creep killing someone 6000 miles away from where I live - its only about 1600 miles to the southern tip of italy and only about 900 miles to the Eastern most border of Europe from London - whats some creep in LA got in common with anyone in Britain FFS???? They export bad television with bad attitudes an even worse violence and bad attitude in their films - I gotta admit I dont think I am retarded enough to understand most of the crap Hollywood pours out ! Compare that to French, Belgian, Dutch, and British cinema - its a 10000 times the intellectual and cultural value from Europe than the USA could ever dream up. Its about time Britain separated itself from the USA and got on with being European - lets fuck the USA off once and for all - those loosers are bad news in EVERY sense of the word - What do any of us know about European Law in comparison to how some redneck in the USA feels about mexicans - I dont want to know about the USA its foreign policy stinks and so do its social attitudes and environmental concerns - we have a lot more in common with France, Germany, Holland, Finland, Sweden that with some fascist hub called the USA What Europeans in other countries think will affect, you, your children, and their children, infact European policy is what will affect you and what does affect you on a scale incomparable to the shambles of a petty little U.S/British alliance - we should demand that Britain adopts cuture from Europe in preference to U.S news - The British, German, and French economies are vast and the agreements and politics that goes on between them is more interesting and has more impact on us. I want to know what other European countries politicians think and in depth - screw american policy they are irrelevent oiks compared to Europe
Of course we know more about the states, they speak the same language. I know a smattering of german but beyond that hardly any other language, call it laziness or whatever on my part but I would imagine the majority of the population are in the same boat. There is also the situation of our problematic history with our close neighbours, and that even if it is old and therefore subtle will still have an effect. It's also just a bit to Hip to be anti-american anyway.
Like Dapablo said, America is our closest partners to Britain, both socially, economically, and also politically. Plus, the only other country to speak English in Europe is Ireland.
Im with sentient I am European, im sick of or tele, our food, our advertising, our way of looking at things and speaking, being all about America, a place all the way over that big ocean Language is a poor excuse. We should be LEARNING European languages, just as the rest of Europe can be bothered to do. We should be teaching our children and stop being so pig ignorant as a nation How long is the trip from Dover to Calais? How long does a flight from England to France take? If were going to be part of Eurtope we should start bloody acting like it, and if not, in my eyes, were a bit sunk
i'm all for expanding relations and exposure to as many societies and cultures as possible. but by sentient's idea, since europe is so far away, i shouldn't give a shit at all. wow. that's SO HANDY. whew! that's a massive load off my to do list, trying all this time to expand my horizons. apparently, if the horizon is far enough away, i should be able to unilaterally hate and impugn everyone beyond it without conscience. i'm going to sleep SO MUCH BETTER. turn off the fucking tv.
throw it out the fucking window, preferably hitting a tv exec. double points for american tv execs, for eviscerating their own nation for profit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3AZaV8cIyY A classic piece of T.Vism......kc you've just moved into 2nd place
how quaint. alright. I'd like to say I agree with Sentient, though not with his arrogance. and I'd like to point out that, yes, most Hollywood product is garbage, but America still tends to put out better independant directors than pretty much all European countries put together (I know what I'm talking about). this is why there is such a huge rift between mainstream and art here (creating divisions of peasents on one hand, and snobs on the other). any decent European film of worth can be found on the criterion collection, for the most part...
Since 9/11 when the universe suddenly changed, we have been too engaged with America. Before America were kind of like in the back ground and we didn't have much communication with them. Now our prime minister is very rarely seen without Bush by his side. I believe America know more about Britain than we know of them or indeed Europe. America teach English and as they speak a strange variant of English, over using the letter W. Cwoffee, Weally, Woohoo. Reminds me of Sesame Street
I think it's sad that our media is more interested in the US than Europe, I mean... we know nothing about Europe...what's going on in the mainland etc. No wonder we have no respect for the EU and what it does...we never know what's going on. Why do we even care that a child has gunned down some people at school in a remote part of the US? Means nothing to us...
Our media is so obsessed with America. Personally I find it ad nauseum hearing about everything, decision, commode George W Bush does every second of the day. It is as though we have got Fox imposed on us. I think that the Government should channel the media to our friends of Europe. What happened in Berlin yesterday? Nobody knows unless they were reading a Berlin paper in Berlin itself.
This is very true. We get US news because it's so easy to just paste it onto air without any effort, but how hard would it really be to report on the European news wires? A few translators, bi-lingual reporters, with the resources of the BBC? That would be a very good thing. We hear almost nothing about "local" European news but a hugely disproportionate amount about the minutiae of what's happening on the other side of the world, just because of a culture of anglo-centricism and laziness. A sad situation.
