i was riding in my friends car when we were pulled over for speeding. since we hotboxed only a few minutes earlier the cop smelled the marijuana and searched the car. we never consented and said nothing.

I was arrested and charged for possession of a small amount of marijuana. this is my first offense and it was only a local ordinance in IL(no state or federal charges).

should i get a lawyer to help me? even though i will probably get off for probation? how much would it cost?

Man that sucks.. I live in IL but I truly have no idea. You the serch button or google or something to find a site about marijuana and laws. www.erowid.org is a good site for drug info too.

dude this is why i don't hotbox my car. i step out to smoke and i never speed when i drive. that's just asking to get caught.

you will probably just have to present yourself to the local judge, probably not even in a formal court. dude. no biggie. just ride it out.

You should get a court appointed attorney, use him/her.

theres nothing wrong with hotboxing cars, but its most intelligently done pulled over on an empty street in a dead neighborhood. after hotboxing you should always roll down the windows or open the doors and have someone who smokes tobacco to cover the smell.

keep that in mind, and speeding is not the thing to do when you're driving under the influence of anything.

Absolutely get an attorney. I've never met ya before but if you plan on receiving financial aid for college you have to get an attorney to get it off of your record.
