I am hoping this forum might find my latest salsa article of interest. It is a positive look at the Salsa On 2 culture in our international salsa scenes, including some great quotes from renown salsa performer Edie the Salsa Freak. Thanks! Very interesting article... As a salsero I find such articles great sources of info. But I noticed a few things that might be a bit inaccurate... 1)Salsa on 2 (NY style) is not the same as Mambo. The Mambo dance is one of the forefathers of salsa, and had a very strong influence on salsa in NY, but still the 2 are not the same. When dancing salsa "on 2" your 1st step is not on the 2nd bit of the music, it is on the 1st bit, but it is done in place. You BREAK the movement on the 2nd bit by stepping forward \ back on your other foot. In mambo you start your 1st step on the 2nd bit 2)Never heard of salsa "cumbia style". 3)Salsa on 2 is making a comeback, especially with the growing popularity of the salsa dura and salsa vieja music styles in recent years. I loved Eddie's story about dancing with Tito Puente... Again, great job!
