Democrat, republican, liberal, consevative, leftest, right-wing, all of those political terms are stupid. I THINK THE GOVERMANT IS MAKING UP THOSE TERMS TO SEPERATE US. Think about it, if we're all beating up on each other, just because we have different beliefs we can focus on how the gov. doesnt care and is trying to screw us all over. I say we drop the terms and pick on the gov for answers instead! Whose with me?!
Brainstew So what policies would you have? Who is us? Who do you mean when you say ‘the government’? Why do you think people don’t care and want to screw you over? If you really believe people don’t care and want to screw you over, who are you actually asking to join you?
Me, I say live and let love, I try not to attach a sign to myself. By "us" I mean everyone who either in the past or now choose to call themselves liberal, democrat, right-wing, what ever and when I say the govermant I mean the powers that be. I'm not saying people want to screw me over like IM ALL ALONE IT'S EVERYONE! The powers that be find all of these ways to seperate us (religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc.) and we fight about them for thousand of years and have for millions without reaslizing that there has to be some reason why our gov wants us to fight so badly. Look at Wood stock, if all the protesters were around smoking pot the gov had a smaller problem, everyone was mellow and unconcerned at the moment. I'm just asking for the people who prefer to place themselves in groups and feel one is better than the other to take off the blind fold, see that we are all bros and sisters and hug and kiss, like God intended.
OMG, THANKS GUYS! I feel so loved at the forums, I had this idea forever but I was scared to post coz I thought you'd laugh at me!
Sorry Brainstew but this is not exactly very thought through You say ‘us’ means “everyone who either in the past or now choose to call themselves liberal, democrat, right-wing” But the problem is that some things some right wingers would want to bring in could mean the end of liberalism and democracy. So what happens when they do that do you stand by and let them because they are part of what you call ‘us’? Or are you saying that all people should have one viewpoint? If so what is that viewpoint going to be, in this new world going to be capitalist? Is it going to have a collectivist economy, a regulated market, or laissez faire free for all? Is there going to be welfare provision? What kind of taxation, if any, is it going to have? What about defence? What about the environment, is going to join international treaties? I could go on and on and on, with every one of them being a political issue that people have differing views on. Are you saying non of these things matter? ** Why do you think ‘the government’ has created these differing viewpoints? How did it create them? I came about my views from experience and research that took place under several governments, four British, three France, and a couple of Greek and Spanish. Also my studies have taken in several thousand years of human political history that described many differing government types from monarchy, to republics and democracy as well as political theory that has postulated theoretical ways of life. In what way did any one government create my ideas? ** What do you actually mean when you say ‘the government’ is the ‘powers that be’? ** You talk of taking off the ‘blind fold’ but why do you think people have them on, it seems to me that if you believe all political viewpoints and ideas are all benevolent then it is you that is actually being blind to the possible dangers. I believe that all people are my fellow human beings but that does not make me so stupid as to think that people are not different or have differing views and that some people’s views are not nice. As to coming together as ‘God intended’, which god are you taking about? **
Balbus, Calm down brother....he's only 14. I could very well be wrong but I believe he's *beginning* to come to a realization and has thought little about the ramifications of his ideology and probably hasn't even considered a new political structuring.
She says she is 14 but what has that got to do with it, I was reading about and discussing politic when I was 14, and what I hated then were those patronising bastards who seemed to think that because I was 14 I couldn’t think for myself and should be treated as a child. I have more respect for her than that, she has chosen to come here to discuss politics and I will treat her posts with the seriousness they deserve, I will not he patting her on the head and telling her she’s ‘a clever little girl with cute ideas’
This is exactly the problem. The original post was very clear, I thought. Why do we have to nit pick and bicker over things that are basically understood by most of us? "Us" means everyone. You are reading far too much into this. I completely get what brainstew is saying and don't understand why you will not. I say will not instead of can not because it appears that way from your posts. I also can see first hand what is meant by having a blindfold on as you are providing an example. Our governments DO divide us, along with help from the mainstream media. They WANT to keep us confused and stupid so we don't question what is going on, and if we do question it, then we must at least be intimidated enough to not do anything about it. It's obvious. The "government" is all forms of the "powers that be". Heck, they even try to take on the "god" role. And they certainly take on the "devil" role too. The government in Amerika is mainly evil. There are some good folks in the mix, but they are not enough to counteract the bad. And we are screwed over every day in some way or another. Taxes, wars, junk laws, cost of living, cost of dying, dishonesty, big brother, dwindling freedoms, I could go on for a while. Guess these are things you don't see thru your blinders... We would do very well with MINIMAL government. We would be happier in the long run. By we, I mean EVERYONE, except for possibly those few who feel the need to be directed by something other than conscience and honor. Our government wants to be the bully on the block. They do not want to get along with any other governments unless they get to have the final say in everything. This goes right down the line to local politics. Even the state cops don't want to get along with anyone unless they get to be the boss. We are a country of picked on people. Keep 'em poor, keep 'em stupid, keep 'em under control, and lock up the rest... Hell, this stopped being a democracy a while ago. So, yea, I agree wholeheartedly with brainstew and I'm glad that someone that young has a brain that works. People like this are our only hope for the future.
I have a hard time understanding why people like Balbus and Pepik continually insist that we all label ourselves and declare our affiliations. Why is that? What major threat is an undeclared individual? Why is it such a bad thing to be? Perhaps, because if more people practiced it polls and political power would be caught off balance.
^^^ I just don't see the point in even trying to discuss anything with people like Balbus and Pointbreak (Pepik). People like that have NO desire to learn or discuss anything deviating from the "good sheeple point of view". They just want to be combative and argumentative, and no matter what you say, what evidence you give, how you explain things to them they are SET in their ways. I see that rhetoric all over these forums.......but their is no point in responding because you are just feeding their ego's. Gardener it's heartening to see i'm not the only one who has noticed this.
I say it's important so we know who the enemy (a.k.a the right wing conservative religious asshole fucktards) are
Im 14 and I think what he was trying to say is that in too young to have gained the experience that you are expecting when you ask me those questions. I just wanted to share what I think is going on. I don't like having to go into every detail about what I believe either you got it the first time, you dont like it or you dont get it.
Dud I’m passionate about politics, is that a crime is that wrong? I think wanting a better future for this planet is worth being passionate about, is that wrong? I’ve come to my opinions after spending a lot of time in reading, researching and debating, was that wrong? Do you think it wrong if I try to oppose those that I think would make the world a worse place? ** I’ve learnt a lot here and it has changed my views on several things, as most experiences do. And if you believe something I’ve said has no meaning or is rhetorical I would be very happy to try and explain it so you can try and understand what I mean. (So if you will just give an example of my rhetoric we can begin). But the thing is that that is my point I’m not scared to talk about what I believe or in defending it from attack, why is it that many here seem so reluctant to talk about their views, it begs the question do they fear they will not stand up to scrutiny and if so why do they have them? By the way what in your opinion is the ‘good sheeple point of view’, it’s usually used as an insult levelled at people that the insulter has differing views to but it’s rather meaningless if the viewpoint isn’t explained. I mean it is usually directed at those with conservative and conventional views. I’ll try and help out by trying to explain my own views, I would say that I’m a pragmatic socialist with very strong environmental leanings, are they common where you come from? Also as I understand it ‘sheeple’ are those that follow without question, but I’m the one asking questions and you seem to be the one telling me questions don’t need to be asked that things should just be accepted. Who would be the sheep in that context? And also can you point to what evidence and what explanation has been given in this thread to expand on the initial post?
Brainstew 14 or 40, the way people gain experience and knowledge is by learning and experiencing, by joining in, by doing things, by interacting. Giving up something before you have even started is a sure why of not gaining experience or knowledge. Now it is up to you if you want to get involved or not, but if not, you are definitely not going to gain experience or knowledge that way. I mean did you really only want a pat on the head, when I was a fourteen year old I would have thought that demeaning, but then hey guess everyone is different.
