Hi my name is Gareth and I am currently doing a paper on the cultural developments of music, politics and the media. If you could add anything I would be very grateful

Whereas previously, musicians would convey their disenchantment or approval of the soveriegnty though encaspulating political or sociological message within the form of song, or broadcast of the song. I was wondering whether the event of music icons such as Tom York, Bono, Bob Geldof and Chris Martin heading charitable campains, scrutinising and influencing political policy, symbolises a new era within the historic association of music and politics? Is this development (which sees music stars directly entering the political sphere) more effective than having political messages coveyed through music. What are the implications on public life, considering these figures are'nt accountable - as they have not been elected by the public? Is the empowerment of celebrity culture through charity beyond criticism?

It's the music that should give the message not the person.
