So I'm looking for some music for shabbat that is not chamber, or choral, just simple voice. Folk style is fine. Hebrew language best. reccomendations? so much of what I'm finding sounds like 1930s movie music, or g-d forbid HAS movie music. Dauer? anyone?
I can suggest a couple things. Some of this would be appropriate (and free): http://eights.org/music/ http://sixthirteen.org/kolzimrah/resources/ The music on this site is older, (very) but if you can make your way through them, some of the melodies are quite beautiful and can work in a modern setting, or be adapted to do so. http://modzitz.org/ Personally I love the modzitzer Eliyahu Hanavi on there, and a few others, but I have a liking for some of the old stuff. Another site with older songs, very melodic and of a very different flavor, that can translate I think is bobovbroadcast.com It's an all yiddish page, but picking out the word download in yiddish isn't too bad, and from there it's easier. The only difficulty there is that the songs can get a bit complex. I can't help you with links... but... The Parvarim (Ha parvarim) have some amazing sounding both religious, traditional, non-religious, and some covers of English songs. Try to find them online.
I know so many! I went/now work at a jewish camp up in the Blue Ridge Mts...
