Yep, The Cure are about the best (to me anyway) from the 80's. The 90's too.

 

I agree .

 

Some of their songs are bit morose like on the Pornography and Faith albums (someone I once knew than called their music "droning"). I think most of Japanese Whispers is a good change from all that.

 

R E M made some good albums in the 80's-lifes rich pageant(1986)-document(1987)-green(1988)
