A swedish friend of mine was telling me about europe and he told me that finns are only half-white or mixed race.

That they are a product of swedes mixing with local mongolian looking people. Comments?

Mongolian? Do we look like mongolian people? Eeeh.. no. Where did he get this information from? I think this would go to the same category with the rumour that there are polar bears here walking on the streets.

What did he tell about swedish people?

Yup. Ever wonder why your language is not part of the european family? He went to a few museums there and in Estonia where the ancient locals had mongolian features. So eventually white swedes went their and had a party. That's why some finns obviously look swedish while others have different facial and skull features. Hey, there's no shame in being a half breed.

You desperately need to get a life, Ladylocks. And learn your history a little better.

This got me so interested that I have to write about it. Sorry. If someone has a better knowlegde of this, please correct me if I´m wrong. This is what I know.

Ok, I can´t be quite sure about this cause I´ve understood that it´s been difficult to find out where finnish people´s origin is. But DNA tests show that we share same kind of DNA with people from Holland, Sweden and i guess Norway etc. And I think we have some slavic and sami (?) blood running through our veins. So our ancestors came from east, west and south. Right? It is said that our facial bone structure(and therefore our looks) is similar to people who lived here in stone age, 10 000 years ago.
Yes, we are mixed races but aren´t we all.

What about the language? Well, it´s Finno-Ugric and our ancestors "adopted it" (I can´t quite explain it) in 4200-2000 B.C. I think it came from Russia. And it got influenced by Baltic people.

This is very simplified answer. There are lots of other things that should be mentioned but if I did it would be pretty chaotic. To really simplify it: after ice age, people from west, south and east moved here, got influenced by each other, some more people moved, got mixed and here is the result. :D

I don´t know if any of this makes any sense but if someone has something to say about this I would love to hear it. :)

Shadowplay, that´s a very cute polar bear. Shame, I haven´t ever seen one "in person". ;)

It's true that Finns aren't full the same people with other Europeans. There are many same genes, but also those that are different from others. Like Basques, Finns were one of those peoples who first lived in Europe before the Indo-European invasion. Finno-Ugric peoples inhabitet the Northern Europe from Scandinavia to Ural Mountains. Later came Scandinavians and in east Slavs.

Finns, Estonians and other Finno-Ugrics are white, not precisely European, but neither Asian. Something of their own.
