I'm really worried that my children and my grandchildren will really suffer because of our mindless consumption. So me and my partner have decided to show that living ecologically is possible with comfort and without damaging the environment. The bottom line is - we do NOT need coal, oil, gas, etc. we need heat, electricity, transport, etc. and that is completely something different. We can get all this from renewable sources and to prove it we've started a website http://www.ourecohouse.info where we want to show that it is possible and we hope that it will popularize green living in general. For those who are interested in green living there is an eco-forum where you can discuss your opinions, experiences, possible solutions, etc. and as a gift, 40 of you will receive $19,000 (£10,000, EUR 14,000) support for your ecological living Everybody is welcome, we have just started. We will live responsibly. :sunny: Modern technology Owes ecology An apology. ~Alan M. Eddison
find yourself a copy of "the $50 and up underground house book" by mike oehler. very ecological AND economical. you'll love it! my dad and i start construction on our own u-house using one of oehler's designs this summer. i can't wait to see how it turns out.
and it's really good of you guys to do this. if only more people were willing to at least consider this, it'd be a step in the right direction. good luck!
Thanks guys. We're really looking forward to show that our lifestyles does not have to damage our environment.
Here in Canada the media and the politicians are getting a lot of mileage out of 'global warming'. To be pro-environment these days means to care about global warming, but we can't forget all the other ways our actions impact the earth. I am starting to distance myself from the environment label as it has been co-opted and am liking the idea of 'sustainability movement'
Exactly, I'm really surprised that there are talks only about CO2 emissions but no talks about SO2, NOx, tiny particles, chemicals in the water, in the soil, the enormous amount of garbage we produce, etc. CO2 itself is harmless gas.
The core of the issue for me is consumption. Industry. Look at all these green geniuses who think carbon offseting is a great thing because they can keep on consuming but feel good about it. We want to be green consumers, because heaven forbid we question the status quo and the gods of progress and economic growth. But our civilization is a cancer, and alternative energy is like a friggin aspirin to this cancer.
