I love De Sade's books - one of my biggest sexual fantasies is that the marquis de sade ties me up and then rips off all my clothes and gives me a damned good hard spanking for saying that he is a big fat poof with a big nose
Thank you, Mr. Mc Donald. I'm glad there's a few decent Scottish people around here who understand what the marquis is about. Most of these scallywags think the marquis is a big tent where you get Pimms and cucumber sandwiches.
With all due interest: In what way was the movie a "fantastic" adaptation? Adaptation of what? Which movie? You're talking about a man who sacrificed his life to write and smuggle out his views whilst he was locked up in a mental asylum for political reasons, and you can't even be bothered to form a sentence! Are we supposed to bow down to your intelligence? Please explain, O Superior Being!
Chill, retropirate made a post about Salo. Pier Pasolini made the film based on the book, and it captured the truculence of the book perfectly. I know I'm new here, but being a dick is unnecessary, especially when it wasn't warranted.
I disagree. I think it was warranted, because if I was a dick then you was "major" dick by acting ignorant towards the artist and his struggles. You will also find, if you have any idea about the aforementioned Pasolini in your diatribe, that he was an ardent communist, and his film was primarily an allegory against fascism, in particular the "Mussolini" regime, and not a faithful adaptation of the Marquis's work. Oh, and welcome to the forum.
ALL books are pointless to those who rarely, if ever, read. Nice try Retro. You ordered the lamb, you eat it.
Why dont you two go to a dungeon together and torture each other to see who knows more about Desade - I suggest starting with nipple tweaks and finishing up with red hot pokers up the anal orifice and then seeing who can carve the word "Birmingham" onto the other persons back with a rusty nail first
Sentient, I do't know what it is that you do in your spare time, but it sure sounds interesting. As for red hot pokers, the only poker I play around with, is the 52 card variety.
Well, that has told me. I bow to your cerebral majesty and cunning use of the English language. Please let me know the details of your academic training so I can master such exemplary logical arguments as: Once again, thank you for showing me the light, or rather the lack of it. I will pray to the Ethereal Being that my night will not be sleepless.
I've been curious to read de Sade for quite some time now. Now my interest is even more piqued.... I'll just have to do it.
well, he has a specific style of looking on life (just remember poor justine); the message he is sending is rather disturbing, but it has sense. he is something 'new', a real refreshment after reading something that teaches you 'be good and it will come back to you'. it's the opposite. i thank him for his diversity, and different point of view.
Intelligent comment. One of the most intelligent on this thread. Have you ever read any William Burroughs?
