Having my tubes tied...

I have tried lots of different bc and in all honesty it all made me crazy. It was probably like living with a mental patient for the rest of my family. I have been thinking about this for a long long time and I finally made my appointment for next Wednesday...

I tryed to have it done once before and it was at a Military Hospital and they told me they would not do it.... even though I have three kids and I know I can not mentally or physically care for another, dont get me wrong, i love them all with all my heart and i would do anything for them, but I know I could not handle being pregnant and take care of a tiny baby again.............................. I told them I did not want to re-populate North America and argued and they still said no, but it is probably just because the doc didn't want to bother with it, I had them cancel my regular appointments and never call and when I would come in they would try to convince me that I never had an appointment in the first place (even tho i had a card with thier handwriting on it). very unprofessional and impersonal, to tell you the truth i am glad they refused.

but lemme get to my point..

I don't know anyone else who has even had this done, and I have never had surgery.... Just hoping there are some ladies that can share their experiences and let me know how things will go
(i know all docs are different, but any knowledge helps).

Normally I hate pain killers but will most doctors prescribe something for when you get home, Tylenol and aspirin do nothing for me and I know I sound like a big baby but I am probably going to need something for at least the first night or so?

Sorry.......... the military docs never wrote a prescription for anything but motrin and to tell you the truth... and motrin just doesn't cut it for me, i have to take 6 tylenols for a headache

How long does it take to get back to normal, i have read some stuff but it is always better to get it from a woman than some old man who writes books ya know?

i had mine done during my second c-section because i couldn't carry another. the recovery and stuff has been utterly inconsequential to me, overall.

I had my tubes clipped laprascopically(sp?), went in the morning, surgery was done by lunch time, I was home by 6pm, the pain was minimal, had 1 dose of post op morphine then just over the counter painkillers from then on, was riding my horses again within 2 weeks of surgery! I have small scar less than 2" on my bikini line and one that is indiscernable unless you know its there in my belly button!

a great WOMAN written book is Women's Bodies Women's Wisdom by Christiana (?) Northrop, MD (was a gyno for years).
She has a great section of choosing to end fertility. Check it out, most libraries can get it.

I remember when my mom had hers done. She went early that morning, and was home by the evening. She used just the extra strength Tylenol. But, she's a freaking tough lady (I'm not insinuating you aren't or anything, just a lot of other women I've heard talk about it say it was excrutiating.) she went back to work just one week after her hysterectomy. She said her tubes didn't bother her, she said it wasn't anything Tylenol couldn't get rid of.
    Good luck!

    awesome thanks for the reply...

only reason i ask about something more than tylenol is with all three of my kids, i took only tylenol when i came home and i only took two percocets in the hospital after i had zion.... i try to be a hardcore tough bitch LOL and well, quite frankly, i feel like i have earned my right to have a damn percocet HAHA

My friend pretty much danced out of her tubal. Me...well thats when I figured out that me and opiates don't mix. I think the painkillers made me more ill than the surgery.

hey guys i am back and feel pretty good

went in at 6 am and was home by 9:30 am

i remember they had to come and give me three doses of versed... it just wouldnt do the trick, dunno if it knocked me out but after that last shot i remember nothing, then i wake up in recovery and the lights are bright so i am making faces and the nurse asked if i was ok and i said yeah, i make faces a lot LOL

anywhoo i didnt even need hardcore stitches, they used the liquid stitch and the only thing that hurt was the gas they pumped in, it was pushing on my ribs all day and driving me nuts so i sat under a heating pad and it helped sooo much....

i can walk around today no problem, but i cant really pick anything up off the floor, but that is no big deal, i thought i was goin to be in pain for a week LOL to my suprise no pain at all and it didnt take nearly as long in recovery as i thought it would... they gave me sprite and crackers and i was sent home before the sprite was gone =)

Hey that happened quick! Good to hear you're doing well. :) I plan to get my tubes tied after having kids down the road, myself. That was a pretty bold move to make and probably kind of scary but now that its over I bet you're feeling pretty good. How great not to have to worry about birth control any more!

Mama, did you have it done in a regular civilian hospital/ clinic?
what's the cost like (considering it myself)?

    and fast healing, sister.

let me know if "resuming relations" has a bumpy road.

it was in a civilian surgery center across the street from the hospital... I am not sure the total cost, with insurance I payed $205 out of pocket, but I have seen clinics about an hour from where I live that charge $1000 - $1500 without insurance, not sure how they do billing.

I am still a little sore where the bruise is around the cut but other than that today I feel great... I had pains from the gasses the pumped in wobbling around trying to get out until today, but they seem to be gone now...

and my hubby is out of town for work so i haven't had any chance to "test it out" sorry if that was completely inappropriate........... couldn't come up with a better way to put it

That's great that you're feeling so well. Everyone I know who's had their tubes tied is stoked about it. Before my hysterectomy my mom kept offering to watch the kids so I could get mine done. LOL
