I watched Barton Fink the other night, this is a Coen Brothers flick I haven't seen before, it made me think that some of the earlier films (well, this and Blood Simple) are sort of more serious films, more symbolic than the later ones (Fargo, Hudsucker, Lebowski, O Brother). But then I suppose Miller's Crossing proves that wrong and so does Raising Arizona, ah well.

What are some of your favourite Coen Brothers films?:)

    :D

I've seen it a few times, and I love it! But I'm totally in love with the bizarre and twisted Fargo and its incredibly underplayed and subtle humour:)

And O Brother Where Art Thou, such a great soundtrack and a brilliant film, actually this choosing a favourite is a bit pointless!

wow, i never woulda expected this forum to give love to any american film makers.

i love all of them. is it wrong of me that i laughed really hard at the scene in fargo where the woman is running away and falling all over the place?

i agree whole heartedly with this. mind you, did love blood simple and raising arizona, but the big lebowski is damn close to perfect, and it has meredith monk on the soundtrack, that can only be a good thing.

Fargo - top show. I'm not going to bullshit on about how great the cinematography was, but it was good or anything else but it all works great. Those brothers are good moviemakers.

I think we've always talked about American films and TV in here, it doesn't have to be British to be discussed, just good! Though even that isn't strictly a necessity.

I did like O Brother as well, dont' get me wrong. and Fargo was very bizarre but really good. I watched that one after working with someone from North Dakota and being told that i just HAD to watch Fargo as I'd find it even funnier after having worked with her. She was a bit backwards really.

Raising Arizona was good as well, but not my fave of theirs by any means. A good watch though.

i guess i just expected americans not to be popular over here in the cinema section, given the sentiment elsewhere. but a good film is a good film, and a good show is a good show, no matter where you are.

Has anyone seen the most recent ones? The Ladykillers, Intolerable Cruelty and The Man Who Wasn't There seem to have passed me by completely:confused:

The Coen brothers are are pretty special I think, yeah. Of their recent flicks mentioned there I've only seen 'Intolerable Cruelty' and I remember liking it, but I don't remember much about it...Don't know what that says :) Probably more to do with my memory than it being sub-par or anything!

It certainly didn't break into my top three though...

    1. Fargo
    2. The Big Lebowski
    3. Barton Fink
