ok, as a longtime fan of both franchises:

the new film AvP, is not a sequel but a spinoff. weaver stated long ago that she would have nothing to do with it, and i think arnold is too busy in his role as the governator. it was a wise move on both their parts not to be involved in such a poor film. the alien films were always more intellident than the predator series, so by combining them something has to get dumbed down.

    my opinion of the films:

alien- the original. the best one. h.r. giger, nuff said. most scary, most atmospheric, most disturbing. classic horror.

aliens- superb sequel. not better than the first. a war movie, not a horror. tight script but stylistically reliant on elements from the original. james cameron was influenced by alien way back when he made the terminator. scott is the master.

alien 3- highly underrated. essential to see the extended dvd version. crippled by studio interference. darkest film, brilliant director. effective music. killing michael beihn was crucial. a bit too melancholic for most audiences to handle, and the flaws unfortunately stand out.

alien ressurrection- erm... shouldn't have been made. wrong director. style over substance at every turn. not remotely scary. the creatures have nothing in common with h.r. giger's creation.

predator- great action film. popcorn movie, not to be taken too seriously. tight action sequences and good suspense. classic score. unique monster, finely executed. among of the best of its kind.

predator 2- not so good. gratuitous violence. unbelievable hero. unpleasant tone. some good action sequences and worthy modifications of the creature, but seriously lacking in other areas. slightly redeemed by the ending.

yeah. they have less in common that it appears at surface value. hardly surprising that the studio milks these franchises now since there is such a lack of original content these days. this one should have stayed in the comics, which were much better.

I liked AvP :) Alien movies alone are decent, and Predator 1 was pretty sweet even though Pred 2 kinda sucked.

Although the movie wasn't as good as I had hoped, there were elements of the movie that differed enough from the originals that made it interesting and a must see for Predator and Alien fans.

Can't wait to see Alien vs. Predator 2 in December [IMG]

I'm pretty sure I saw a trailer that said it's coming out on Christmas Day.
