I have always been curious if vegetarianism is growing or not. It seems like in college there are a huge amount of vegetarians, but then out in the real world there are a lot fewer. I recently heard of some major newspaper story about how on some campuses about 25% of the students are vegetarian and they are making all-vegetarian dinning halls. To me it seems like vegetarianism has just kept growing and veganism is probably growing even faster as more people make the full switch to a cruelty free lifestyle. Anyone else have any thoughts, or some data to back this idea up with?
i voted yes, simply because i've noticed how most major supermarkets now have at least one vegetarian foods section. from what i heard it's only like 2 or 3 % of the population in the USA is veggie.. i could be wrong and i hope i am and the numbers are higher (wishful thinking?)
I hope it is growing, but I'm unsure. People in my area seem to be vegetarian, our small town bakeries have vegetarian options and I see anti meat literature on the town notice board. Someone in town even has the same sticker that we have on our cars. .. Love us not eat us, all lives are precious. These stickers can be ordered free of charge from http://www.loveusnoteatus.com/ We can only hope.
I think more people are exploring vegetarianism, atleast reducing their meat consumption and trying more veggie foods even if they are not total veggie.
Im abit of a new one to the whole veggie thing, but I think lots of people are trying it or certainly giving it thought, which can only be a good thing. Im making my first ever falafel right now hehe, hope it turns out right cos im no master chef!
I think veggie lifestyle is growing. I think a lot of it has to do with you 15 to 25 year olds. You are so much more aware of the world we live in than people my age are. And as such more and more of you are veggie. Keep it up kids. We need you to teach us how to live. As someone said, you can now buy veggie and even vegan food in the average supermarket. Ten years ago you couldn't. Kathi
Among people I know, veganism is growing and vegetarianism is declining. (And as I like to point out, supermarket vegans are not 'cruelty-free'. My friends who hunt deer inflict less cruelty than the industrial food system, so we need to use that term sparingly.) This, for me, represents that if it's not ok to eat an animal, why is it ok to cage it, pump it full of drugs, hook it's udders to a milking machine and take it's calves away from it? If you love animals, leave them alone or hunt them, which at least gives them freedom until the day they are harvested.
