Hi Everyone... I have just gotten my period back a couple of months ago after having two kids a year apart. The problem is every time the time comes I get horrible PMS. Its scary. I get suicidal, paranoid, irratic, and angry... my rage goes out control and I can get violent. Any and every little thing will set me off. I talked to my mom about it and she said the doctor would probably put me on medication (eek!). A friend told me there is a name for severe pms...what is it? Is there any better more natural way then medication to take care of this? I'm never like this and I feel so posessed, I hate being so angry and out of control. It takes all of my strength to not do dumb things and I've never been like this ever in life not even when I was depressed. I am no longer depressed either, actually I've never been happy until pms time comes again. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eryn
I found a link for you, Eryn. It's called premenstrual dysphoric disorder. http://www.pmdd.factsforhealth.org/ I hope this helps.
Thank you, that helped alot... I think I have it so I guess I'll have to go to a doc and find out for sure. The site said there are natural ways to treat it too so thats good.
Some womyn with severe PMS do really well on SSRI antidepressants (Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, ect) With really serious RAGE reactions, make sure your doctor checks you for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. Really, it isn't like regular epilepsy where you have a "seizure" TLE symptoms are rage, being totally out of control, sometimes repeating the same thing over and over, as well as other symptoms your doctor will look for. It is OFTEN an overlooked diagnosis when depression accompanies uncontrollable rage reactions. Antiseizure drugs are VERY effective at combatting the rage, and often the depression as well. Please see a GOOD neurologist, not an internist or OBGYN for this. They just miss too much. Blessings. I hope you can heal quickly. PS when you are experiencing severe depression, suicidal thoughts, severe rage reactions ect PLEASE do not mess around with "natural" treatments by themselves. If you have these symptoms you have a REAL illness, which need REAL diagnosis, evaluation and treatment. ST Johns Wort, or something like that is NOT going to help you, and you may get really worse, and hurt yourself without real treatment. PLEASE see a neurologist or a good psychiatrist. You deserve to get the best medical care available, and your kids deserve for you to be well as quickly as possible, too. A good diet and relaxation therapy are great along WITH medical treatment, but "natural alternative" treatments for such severe symptoms, alone, are just not going to be in your best interest.
i can totally relate only my kids ages are different than yours,7 & 1,ugh! what i did was visit a psychiatrist, told her,yes i chose a women because i thought she could understand being a girl and all; how manic and nuts i was feeling and we started with paxil, only im not depressed, just occassionally crazy, next buspar, and then the day i found the answer to my problem.i cut down on sugar and caff. and got a valium prescription.they are habbit forming but if you take them as prescribed, then problems should be limited.i sleep better and i feel as though i have CONTROL good luck on this long road to recovery
Eryn, one of my girlfriends was having some issues to, spoke with her doctor and he prescribed a low dose of Prozac and it has made a huge difference for her. She didn't want to take it but in three months I have my old friend back and she's hoping that the meds and changing some other things in her life will help her out. I hope you can find what helps you.
