pretty cool. the senate is ignoring bush's veto threat and setting an actual date to withdraw.. check it out
As expected, Bush's idiotic response didn't surprise me. Just like Vietnam, Iraq is this generation's Vietnam War. What part of "you cannot win this war" can he not understand?. http://www.antiwar.com/updates/?articleid=10735
Bush is a dumbass...if anyone should be in Iraq fighting for whatever the fuck we're suppose to be fighting for its him. I've an idea...lets go catch him, strap him with an ak or something, put him in a giant package and have fedex send him to Iraq...or better yet, antartica(he'll die either way)
I don't know, if the measure is vetoed there won't be enough votes to override the veto, but the democrats will still look like they tried. But if it does pass, there is no date that the gov't has to withdraw by. It's just another pathetic reelection strategy. They don't focus on what's important, they focus on what will get them reelected.
^if bush does veto it, isnt there a chance that congress can still overrule him somehow? I thought I learned somethin about that in school, but im not sure if im right
If Bush vetoes it he is vetoing the financial backing of his war with it. It's truly a double edged sword. The dems and those few repubs that voted for it included the funding for the war within it.
The Congress will give Bush his war money no matter what. This is just a game of chicken and a way to humiliate him a little before giving him the money. .
Congress has said they will quickly put a bill in for funding, without the withdraw timetable, if bush vetoes this bill. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070401/ap_on_go_co/obama_interview_1
this pullout bill is bullshit. the democrats are just dumb fence walkers. the troops should be pulled out now. not 2008.
The bill was never meant to work. The democrats are no better than the republicans. Wings from the same bird. This is all about reelection. Now they look like they tried to be tough against the president, so people will shut up for awhile.
The politicians that are depending on that may be in for a rude awaking in the next election. Cheney and Bush are staying the hard line. I am hoping that those that passed this bill will also. By defending a lost cause and staying the course or funding the "surge" we are not saving face or lives. We are continuing to sacrifice for the goals of large petroleum interests. You truly think all that money is spent on the troops? It goes to the independent contractors who shave expenses by providing one meal a day to the troops and fail to provide the necessary armour or support, in order to protect their outrageous profits.
I know that the money is going to contractors. A lot of the democrats have benefited from this war as well though.
