Watched "What the Bleep Do WE Know?" and it really interested me into the whole idea/philosophy behind the science of possibilities. Anyone know any books on quantom physics that someone like me with only a highschool eduaction but reads a lot can understand?
what the bleep is such a good movie! love it I just finished a really kewl book called the holographic universe by michael talbot..it touched alot on quantum physics. Good luck on your journey down the rabbit hole! BTW I'm from Joliet too!
For an understanding of Quantum Physics, I would recommend reading anything you can get your hands on by Richard Feynman. Feynman writes like a genius with the mind of a child, and has a way of explaining highly complex concepts in a childishly straightforward way. You will also find a glimpse into an amazing personality. For more perspectives into the mathematical/logical subtleties of the universe we live in, I would recommend the following: Disturbing the Universe by Freeman Dyson Godel, Escher Bach; an Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking If you like Freeman Dyson, you might also enjoy reading The Starship and the Canoe (I forget the name of the author), a (true) biographical novel comparing Freeman's attempt to buld a nuclear powered spaceship with his son George's adventures building and traveling in a sea kayak between Vancouver and Alaska.
Dr. Candace Pert , one of the scientists fom the movie has some excellent books out. I have read molecules of emotion and really enjoyed it. It was easy to read as the Celestine Phrophesy. If you hav'nt read that it is also a good one, though a little off the path from quantum physics, I think it still talks about the same kind of stuff the movie did, if that is what you are into. http://www.candacepert.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Celestine_Prophecy
I could not enjoy that movie myself. It was too filled with errors, misrepresentation, and useless nonsense for me. That's another topic entirely though. A "good" book depends on how interested you are in the topic. How is your mathematics, physics, and chemistry? How much time do you have? Are you looking for an introduction or are you digging in deeper? Are you looking for broad information or something very specific? You need to answer all those questions before we can recommend a really good book. I personally recommend scholarly journals over books most of the time, but those tend to be more technical than most people can or are willing to understand. I would try looking into Nature first. If you're still interested then go to a field specific source.
In my opinion most people are just looking for more of a meaning for life not necassarly a mathmatically correct explanation of it. I think people just want to believe there is a greater force at work here and we are here for a greater purpose than we could ever imagine. I think those movies and some books that are out (bleep, celestine series) are great because they open peoples eyes to an entire other wacky universe. Most folks who are finding this stuff are not going to buy in and be brainwashed by all of these theories that this material is presenting. Most watch something and interpret it in their brains and make their own desicion on what they witnessed and their past life experience. Then, hopefully they continue down their journey to find the right way to live for them. since there is no one right way to live....hmm...isn't it funny how all of our past and present experiences color our reality. i think that is what makes us so beautiful........
"Let There Be Light" by Howard Smith (Astrophysicist & Qabalist) "The Mind of God" by Paul Davies (a little out-of-date in physics, but still good) Keep watching CERN for the "Higgs Boson" in 2008!
"What The [Bleep]" was an OK movie, though I really don't buy this whole "law of attraction" fad for one second. Anyway, if you're interested in further reading about th law of attraction as well as quantum physics, I would suggest the "What The Bleep" book (it goes further in-depth than the movie), and also "The Secret" (both book and movie), which is supposed to be a 'Real eye opener' to 'Like-minded thinkers'. For some reason, though (this is just my personal opinion), I don't buy into weird divisions of so-called "science" that tells you you can, and even encourages you to think a certain way in order to receive material possessions, wealth, and even to "get rich quick" off of their tricks, since they know all of the answers. Now I'm not bashing them (I even believed in the law of attraction for some time), but I came to the common realization that merely sitting on your couch with your special thinking cap on, with no action behind it whatsoever, does absolutely nothing. But there will be many more books and movies that will bluntly insist that you can. But anyway, after thinking about it all, it just lost it's novelty to me. Sorry for the rant .
I am not sure that the movie the secret is trying to tell you that if you sit around and do nothing you'll get a lexus....you know..i think it's telling that if you believe and act then things find a way of happening . .. . i'm not into the movie either....it is the marketing...
