hi everyone, iv been a vegetarian now for 1 month and iv honestly never felt better. i dont plan on ever eating meat again but iv heard that if you do after being vegetarian you can get really sick, is this true?
If you do relapse month or even years in you will get sick if you eat meat. You stomach stops producing certain enzymes to break it down. Or something like that. peace&love ryv
exactly what ryver said.. when you eat meat your body produces more bile to break it down.. but you need meat to produce bile.. so if you're not eating meat.. not making a lot of bile you could possibly get sick. i've had some now EX-friends think it'd be funny to slip me meat.. twice this happened to me! both times i got very sick.. fluids coming out of both ends of me.. uke: the second time it happened i laid in bed for 3 days, burning hot, sweating, but shivering cold inside. a lot like food poisoning. after only a month ones body is probably not going to have such a negetive responce as someone that hasn't eaten animal products for a much longer time. good luck on your journey!
Yes. It's true. I've unfortunately done it. When I was a teenager, I was veg for two years. I had to start eating meat again when I moved back in with my parents. A few years later, I moved out on my own. When my husband moved in a few months later, I went veg again and he did for the first time. It's been about three years and we feel amazing. Even if you don't plan to start again, it's a good thing to know. And on the off chance that you ever have to start again, it helps to be careful and forewarned.
it also depends on sensitivity to chemical changes in the body. I slipped after moving to Colorado. That first winter knocked me for a loop with cold so I though that I'd see if the meat keeps you fueled longer bit was true for me. Enter a couple chicken wings. Here's what I found: meat is REALLY dense food (I've since gotten that about tofu and eat far less of it). It is also oily/fatty. It tasted like oily salt water. I felt mildly "not right" for 48 hours (the time it took to get out of my system is my guess.).
I have heard that some people have no reaction and others that felt very sick. Evaluate the reasons why you are vegetarian and if you'd go back. Personally I would never ever eat meat again.
yeah i ate a hotdog, of all things, after being veggie for 8 years... needless to say, that ended terribly. i'm back on the veggie bandwagon and have been since august... so it's been ten years! (minus that little relapse)
i cant ever imagine eating meat again. its only been a month since i turned veggie but i wasnt much of a meat eater before and now just the thought of it makes me feel ill so needless to say i wont be going back to meat eating in a hurry!
things happen: broth by accident, a mislabeled frozen meal (the company that makes Linda McCartney meals, no less) really dumb ideas like the chicken experiment above. The fattiness and density is what whacks most people out. there can be an enzymatic reaction that can result in a quick clear out. Or you can just sense something is really wrong. I've never had pork by choice in my life. I was at a Vietnamese place for a noodle bowl (yuuuuuuuummm noodle bowls). I ordered a veggie egg roll vegetable bowl. What I was expecting from my previous visits was the usual veggie and noodle layers with about one egg roll (actually a fried spring roll) sliced on top. Kitchen made a mistake and put a regular pork egg roll on it. (I had to ask other people at the table what that stuff was) one bite and my body rebelled. It knew that something "NOT FOOD" was in that bite. I tried to gracefully spit it into a napkin & spent the next several minutes in the loo rinsing out my mouth & brushing my teeth and tongue. They were very apologetic and I get great service now.
omg eatting meat afterr bein veg is such a horrible horrible experience i did twice accidently over the past 20 years, 1st time only a couple bites... & had a high fever & puked my guts up... 2nd time was worxse..ate much more without realizing it..& for a week or more felt totaly toxic & like a had a rotting brick covered in razorblades sitting in my intestines tearring me up..it was nasty & horrible & i felt so toxic in every way i wished i coulda puked my guts up..this may sound disgusting but it was alot more pleasant then the toxic feeling i had from that nasty rotting meat in my gut, so..since it had been there a week, & puking it up wasnt an option..well ya can use your imagination.. there was just 1 other way to eliminate all that festering crap..damn i hope that never happens again
your intestines are not designed for meat your only able to digest meat with the help of microorganisms which breat down the meat for you (literaly then your digesting theyre shit..nice huh?) when yoh stop eatting meat long enough, these microeganisms die, so you cant digest ,eat any longer & meat becomes toxic to you because it really just isnt meant to be eatten by humans
It is the fear of this type of reaction that encourages me to ALWAYS bring food when I'm invited someplace. I don't think people realize how serious vegetarianism is! I trust no one...haha. I sound all paranoid! People might think they're being funny , but they could truly sicken someone!
Cheers for those of you that answered me.. As for the rest I did ask that I did not get a barrel full of abuse. I am a free minded intelligent fellow able to think for my self. Yes I am aware of the advertising slogans that companies can use. Thats why I would only go to local farmers that I had already seen. In fact this has all come about after visiting a friends farm. I also can not believe that some one who has been a vegi for that long has such a closed one track mind. Christ you must respect others views and for gods sake I would have thought you guys would understand that more than most. GET OFF YOUR SELF RICHEOUS PEDDLE STOOL At the end of the day we are supposed to eat meat, thats what we have evolved to do, and I think I speak for the vast number of vegies, we would eat it if it wasn't treated so badly in life. But on the other hand we have evolved to be free thinking and can consciously make decisions for our selves. Sorry I think I have lost the point of what I was saying. Basically every one is entitled to their own opinion, I am an intelligent guy I made mine and was just asking for advice. CHILL OUT GOD DAMB IT. Any way as it happens I went to the farm the other day, he gave me a fresh steak that I saw him prepare. That stake is now with my good old Gran who will cook it for my pop's I made my self very ill just thinking about eating the stuff. Phil
i accidentaly ate a very small peice of fish just last week after being meat free for three years and vegan for about 6 months. it was in an olive of all things! i was in spain and apparently in spain it is common for green olives to contain a small peice of tuna, and they are actually sold labeled with or without fish in the grocery store, but never having encountered olives with fish in them i did not think to ask. i ate three of them before my friend from the area pointed it out to me. i honestly could not taste it, probably because they were very salty. i had stomach pain the next day, could have been unrealated.
