When I was like 6 or 7 years old, a very weird thing happened to me. I was sleeping in my room. I woke up for some reason, without opening my eyes yet, and I felt like someone was staring at me. When I opened my eyes, I saw a white...figure standing in the doorway of my room. I can't even describe the fear I had when I was looking at it.....and some sort of weird...calmness at the same time. I really don't like how in some movies actors scream when they see something scary. When I saw that thing I felt totally paralyzed, I tried calling my grandma, but I just opened my mouth and words didn't want to come out. I am 100% sure that this wasn't a dream, since I could hear my grandma snoring. Besides, I was a very curious child at the time and I loved scary stories and books about ghosts. So I made a promise to myself that night that never will I doubt that this actually happened to me. Today, I just wonder who was the person who came to visit me so early in the morning? If any of you have psychic abilities, could you please tell me?
Sure. It was the hypnagogic state of consciousness between sleep and waking which triggered images (much like a dream). At this stage you can be remotely aware of your surroundings (like your grandma snoring) and still see or hear things that are only dream sequences. It's very normal and it happens to many people.
Well it wasn't me, Lil Mermaid, and I'm afraid that I personally can't say for sure who (or what) it was. However I beg to differ with my esteemed colleague Libertine about it being a hypnagogic experience--it sounds like you were aware of what was happening for a significant amount of time, whereas hypnagogic visions and sounds tend to be extremely fleeting. I could say that I think because of your strong interest in ghosts, you may have had enough desire to attract that experience--or a ghost decided to fulfill your wish as a nice surprise. However that is pure conjecture on my part.
There are lots of ghosts out there. I wouldnt worry about it too much. If you didnt recognize them, maybe that's alright.
The only time I've had trouble screaming is in my dreams, so if that had happened to me I would've assumed I was dreaming.
