I can't think of guinea pigs as pets. I just see them as food. They taste pretty nice as well....

You'd be surprised. Both my parents thought it was the stupidest pet when I first brought it home, but they grow on ya!

Well I've eaten one, but I've never kept one as a pet. They originate from the Andean regions of South America where they were and still are used as a food source, often a delicacy these days. When they were brought to Europe they were taken up as pets first by the upper classes. I don't see why people think it's so wierd to eat a guinea pig, especially since they were used as food long before anyone ever considered keeping one as a pet. In fact, I think using them for anything other than food is mad....

    I don't think it's weird. I'd rather keep mine as a pet though then a meal. :)

That's just the brainwashing effect of Western cultural hegemony talking! Resist the influence of imperialism, reject the exploitative history of colonialism and eat your guinea pig....

Remind me not to invite you over for dinner, or my guinea pig would be gone!
