Where can I get some leather-free sandals with arch supports, in local stores? I found some online, but I dont want to buy shoes w/o trying them on.
I have some leater-free birks. But I ordered them on the internet. The arch support is pretty good. Also Choco makes vegan sandals that have at least some arch.
What about Earth Shoes? I saw some the other day, but I dont know if they have leather or not. I should probably mention, that I have had foot problems in the past.
Earth shoes have some vegan lines. Here's what I recommend: CHACOS www.chacousa.com I've worn Chacos daily (with the exception of days with over three inches of snow) since 1998. I'm still wearing pair one, bought pair two in 2002 and just a treat for myself last month bought pair three. I think my footbed will be too old to resole pair one again, but it was just done, and I expect 2 more years of wear on them.
What is your opinion on the Navigator 2 (http://www.earthshoes.com/shoeDetail.asp?Gender=men&cat=4&offset=0&ID=519)? I'm not sure I'll get vegan yet, but I figure that vegan sandals would be better for me anyway, because I have gotten atheletes foot from leather sandals. Would vegan sandals help with that? Please reply.
With all due respect, if you are looking for a shoe that is somewhat cruelty-free or whatever, please check thrift stores before you bring any more new consumer goods into this world. The truck that brings those vegan shoes to the shoestore hits a lot of animals before it gets there. And so on...
I'm really more concerned with quality(arch support, durability, etc.). Would vegan sandals be as durable as leather?
I'm not sold on Velcro, hippyman. I think it dies out long before the shoe does in normal wear. Chacos have buckles and as I said before, are resoleable so they live MUCH longer. Fast turn around. The factory is in Colorado, but my east coast buddies have the same response time. the Earth Shoes are not resoleable (not are Tevas, sad since the name means nature) that I can tell. as to Raven's comment, I buy 99 percent of goods second hand or "harvested" from trash skiffs. I have no problem buying one pair of shoes every four-five years.
I'm hoping I can find a pair of Earthshoe sandals like the ones I have right now. They're velcro, but once you get the straps adjusted right, you can use a buckle to fasten them.
