I have often heard people say that 90's grunge music is so deperessing, now I don't know if it's their honest opinion or if they are mearly parroting someone else's thoughts, but I love Seattle rock and decided to take a stance to defend it. So I started really listening and investigating,... and being a writer I started researching. I have discovered that alot of murders, random killings had occured in the Seattle area roughly starting in the mid 80's and on. There are a hand full of serial killer that came from that area also. Now I am still doing research and don't have all the information yet, but it seems to me that if kids were growing up in that time frame they would have been exposed to that throughout there preteen years and teenage years via the media and personal exposure. One can almost find the connection with the lyrics to the music and life in the Seattle area at the time. An example is surfing and the California scene in the 50's and 60's. Surf music became big due to the scene most kids were exposed to. I hope I'm not way too off track here, but it seems to make some sense? Any comments?
well sure, art doesn't exist in a vacuum (most of the time) and often reflects the context which it originates from.
I love Grunge like Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Mad Season, Soundgarden. Sure, they have some depressing songs but I think it's wrong to say that music play's a part in the actions that people take. Like you say the murders and such
I love grunge...loved it then, still love it. But it's not that it's depressing..........it's heroin music.
