Yeah like why are they trying to stop gun runners in the area anyway, shouldn't they be selling them guns, then Iraq could attack Iran again.

The Falkland Islands, also called the Islas Malvinas,[1] are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located 300 miles (483 kilometres) from the coast of Argentina, 671 miles (1080 km) west of the Shag Rocks (South Georgia), and 584 miles (940 km) north of Antarctica (Elephant Island). They consist of two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, together with about 700 smaller islands. Stanley, on East Falkland, is the capital and largest city. The islands are a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom, but have been the subject of a claim to sovereignty by Argentina since the British invasion of 1833.

In pursuit of this claim in 1982 the islands were invaded by Argentina, precipitating the two-month-long undeclared Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom, which resulted in the defeat and withdrawal of Argentine forces. Since the war there has been strong economic growth in both fisheries and tourism. The inhabitants of the islands are British citizens. Many can trace their origins in the Islands back to early nineteenth century Scottish immigration. They reject the Argentine sovereignty claim[2] with English and not Spanish being the language used on the islands.

seems to me the brits retaining claim on it is a product of the inhabitant wishing it so. sounds reasonable to me.

700 Iranians Protest Against The UK, 15 Captured Sailors

TEHRAN (AP)--About 700 people staged a brief demonstration in the Iranian capital Friday against the U.K. and the 15 U.K. sailors being held by Iran.

Leaving Tehran University campus after Friday prayers, the protesters walked a few hundred meters down the road chanting "Death to Britain!" and "We condemn the British invasion!"

The demonstrators dispersed of their own accord, making no attempt to go to the U.K. Embassy.

The British hostages have been forced into making confessions. Actually satelite pictures show that our 14 men and little lady were clearly in Iraqie waters. However it is hoped that our british service people will be liberated. I hope sanctions are imposed on Iran for this and hope that iran make an apology. Even Turkey have condemned Irans actions.

Actually the Falklands is still British precisely for one reason. It is one of the few places British war ships can refuel in safety in the event that they need access to the pacific, antarctic, or that they are in trouble around that area. It is a military strategic point and therefore vigorously defended. During the second world war many damaged Royal Navy ships used the place to be repaired.
