I've tried to be as objective in the choices as possible - you can include your own, if you like.

Comfortably Numb has such a powerful solo, and an amazing outro

i was going to vote for All Along The Watchtower (one of my all-time fav Hendrix songs) but the solo in that never really GRABBED me and pulled me inside like Comfortably Numb has

Out of those listed, I gotta say Crazy Train due to my love for the song (the name is in fact my email address :S).
But my favourite all time guitar solo is by a band called 'Threat Signal'.

Cant say that I care for any of those songs, but my personal favorite is the entire song Gates Of Delerium by Yes. Absolute jazz/prog/insane fusion masterpiece! :)

Or, Sound Chaser, same band and same album, would be close. Oh, and how could I forget the jem in To Be Over, the last song on the album? Ok, Im just going to go with Relayer as a whole, from beginning to end, as my favorite work done on the electric guitar :)

I'm kind of sick of a lot of those songs, although most of them are bona fide classics of course... of those I might have to go with Hotel California actually, I think that's a pretty bitchin' solo. There are so many solos I love, but I'll just throw one out there: Bold as Love, Jimi.

I couldn't choose between stairway to heaven and all along the watchtower, but I choose hendrix because he is more of an all time favourite of mine than led zeppelin and have to agree with madcrappie that maggot brain by funkadelic is probably the best guitar solo ever recorded

Kind of a shitty selection. I'd say my favorite might be Sugar Magnolia as recorded for the Ladies and Gentleman... The Grateful Dead album, which is a compilation of the April 71 Fillmore East run. The solos are short, sweet, and very energetic.

Another favorite is the last track of a bootleg of a jam at the jefferson airplane house in october 1969. Jerry is on fire, he pulls some pretty smoove volume swells.

Normally I would go with Stairway, but I said Freebird because I've been listening to it a lot lately and it gets me so pumped to jump on walls or something.

I was just listening to Metallica's cover of Diamond Heads the Prince yesterday. Man, doesn't that guitar in the beginning just feels like lightning through your brain! One of my favourite covers actually! :)

I hate it when someone asks a question where thousands of different answers are possible, all depending on the answerer's opinion, experience and tastes, and then a poll is added, limiting people's options to those the question-asker thinks are most relevant. It's not a big thing but I can get pretty annoyed at that.

I only know half of the songs mentioned in the poll, and I can't even remember or imagine how the solos from these songs went. I don't listen to a lot of music in which solos are important so they're generally not a thing I pay extra attention to.

If I'd have to name one, it would most likely be

Iced Earth - A question of heaven.

Not THAT is a great solo, and the way it climaxes into one of Matt's most emotional vocal performances ever is goosebump-inducing.
