beryl is so cool. i have multiple desktops on the cube with translicencies. it rocks, far superior to anything i have seen. (except the prototype concept Mac has just produced)

on *Nix systems: to take a screen shot, press "print screen". then save it. it will be saved to your desktop or home directory.

on Windows: press "print screen". then open Paint. now go to Edit >> Paste. finally, save the image (save as).

on Mac: press Command-Shift-4. the screenshot will be saved to your desktop.

for more information, go to this wiki. it will also explain how to do this in Windows Vista.

Aderall I am very interested in that - I have not heard of Beryl what is it?
Is Beryl what allows you to have that cube thing?
Damn I got a feeling I may be getting into fedora soon

yes, beryl does allow the cube thing. it was originally from Xorg but Beryl is kind of a compilation of all the graphical effects of all cool window managers combined.

it is really easy to install Beryl on Fedora Core 6. if you decide to try it out, i can tell you how i did it. it is not hard like other distro's because fedora has packaged everything to setup Beryl automatically. it is just 1 command now (or install from graphical YUM).

    and raysun,
Beryl with Compiz is a tricky one. i am actually using Metacity with Beryl. Beryl is more like a layer that uses the window manager.

lol sentient. at least you dont have to pay for these toys.

i have not seen this in OpenSuse 10.2 but it may be there. in Fedora Core 6, be sure to install the Livna repository just in case you need graphics card drivers or other things that arent available in the Fedora repos.

btw, what graphics card do you want Beryl on? and how much graphics memory?

can someone with a fast connection to the net tell me what download speeds they get when trying to download the fedora core files from their site using the provided links (not bit torrent or ftp software) they wont let me download at more than 35kbs
and each iso is going to take about 5 hours that way

unless they got faster sites elsewhere

here is a list of mirrors:

    http://rhold.fedoraproject.org/Download/mirrors.html

you can choose from many different servers from around the world. if one doesnt work or isnt fast enough, try another. to be honest, i think i usually get about 300k averages when i have downloaded fedora but i got my FC6 DVD it was a torrent.

35k is low. let me know if the link helped.

I hate to sound "on one" about it but I hate fedora and everything red hat. I just cant do it, it drives me round the twist its a really really dumb version of linux !!! If there is an error it never recovers itself but reboots its like windows 3.1 in comparison to suse.

There now I feel a lot better (I am downloading suse and will run beryl under that) On the beryl website it says I can so I will.

In answer to your q I am just gtoing to be using a bog-standard card that I filched out of a dell machine - its a ATI rage pro 128

I am going to run everything on a pentium 3 with 384MB ram and a 1 gig swap disk

sorry if fedora didnt work out for you. 128mb rage pro should be fine for Beryl. just be sure you have a good graphics card driver cause some cards have 2 or 3 different drivers available for each card.

    better luck for it
