Is Rocky Mountain High. Go John! in an interesting discussion, the WarHawk sports reporter in my office is a JD feak...how clueless was he listening as a kid? the photog saw JD live at Red Rocks, once. I saw him several times. A fellow reporter caddied for Denver's dad at Buckley Air base. Almost everyone in the news side seems to like at least one song of his. eclectic bunch, we are, but we agree on John Denver, nee Duchendorf.
No Shit?!?!?! If so, THANK YOU Colorado for recognizing a GREAT friend to our ecology, and to many of our musical tastes.
As an Easter present, I got John Denver's Greatest Hits Volume II. (Yes, at that time we got presents in our Easter baskets.) I was 8 years old at the time, and was a big fan of John Denver for years after that. Little did I know then that my dad would take us to Colorado after retiring from the Army. I lived in the Castle Rock area for 12 years before moving to Wisconsin.
i just have to say that i really hate that song...john denver was a good musical artist, i just can't stand country music. My grandma always listened to it and by the time i was 5 i couldnt deal with it anymore.
I would not categorize it as "country" esp, given the definitions of country at the time. (now it is more hick pop) Country Roads, Thank God I'm a country Boy, and Grandma's feather bed were country-written tunes, but RMH was closer to a folk-rock genre a la Working Man's Dead/Byrds/ Flying Burrito Brothers than Country and western. Today, it'd be "singer-songrwriter."
my bad, i dont go into it that technically...to me it sounds countryish which is a big turn off for me. I gotta say that the song does Colorado perfectly. Like I said before John Denver was a really good musical artist, its just not my style.
