Better so, man! I was born in Germany and I hate it so much- my parents are a little bit like that as well. It is in most of southern Germany even worse than in Berlin. However at the north side of lake Bodensee there is a nice concentration of alternative people, several big anthroposophic projects. However, I prefere Switzerland, people in general are so much less racist there (italian, french, welsch and swissgerman in 1 country). And there were hundrets of shops for grass until 2001-2003 when they had to close them all down. Like Amsterdam, only little known, even by germans at the time. In Switzerland was like hippitimes new `68 for some years, everybody smoked in the trains and everywhere- you can hardly imagine it now its all over because of the 2001 shit. Was like a dream. Swiss people are still very cool however, no comparison to germans. And lots of hippies and dreadheads everywhere...
Hi pianoperson, I am so sorry that you have to live with such a family. Luckily the people in your school seem to be nice. I don't really love Germany either, although I am a German, but however, let me tell you there are really plenty of nice people in Germany and Berlin, like me...haha, anyway. In which quarter of Berlin do you live?
Oh, I really like Germany. Especially the southern parts are beautiful, and I like the people I've met as well. But maybe that's because I'm mainly in Germany at festivals. They just have some great ones! Ah well, the people in the towns I've talked to were also pretty normal and nice to me though. I don't see what's so bad about my eastern neighbours in general It's pretty nonsense to generalize all people in a specific country anyway.
Well, maybe the more than 10 years I spent in Switzerland were just too nice. There I always was around with so many hippies whereas since I am back to Germany for more than a year, I have not even found a single hippie person and I am just so alone and sad here. But I think it is espacially difficult in my region. The few "alternative" people I saw told all the same thing that here is no real "scene" and they are also allone and sad about it. I never ever herard somebody of this Stuttgart region say that it is nice for hippies here. By the way, Baden-Württemberg is the 1st or 2nd state (with Bavaria) with the most strict and intolerant police. Last fall I met however a guy who thinks a little alternative and hippie as well, but he also is already so depressed, he almost never leaves the house.
That`s the reason why I am in this forum now. In Switzerland I never got the Idea to search inn Internet because there are Hippie and Dreadhead people everywhere and you can easily find communities and projekts run by hippies to stay and live with them. Anyway, I`m going to leave Germany as soon as I can. I may go to Italy since I started to learn Italien 2 years ago already...
No no guys, when I said "crazy Gemrans" in the title of my thread, I didnt mean I thoguht Germans were crazy. I was referring to my host family. I love all the Germans Ive met (well, with the exception of my host family)! I looooooooooooove Berlin so fucking much! Dont get the wrong idea! I have nothing against Germans, and anyways, Im not one to ever generalize and say "I like this race, or I dislike this nationality." I think its ridiculous to try and ever sum up a group of people as good or bad.
Haha, that was clear already, man. I was referring to posts from other people in this thread who seem to be generalising.
i have been to spain for a single week and i already missed my privacy, so i feel really bad for you, because you don't have any privacy at all for such a long time. what can i say? get out of it alive and live on!
Not allow them out of the house? Ok that is a bit much. Was it for safety reasons or was it more for "other" reasons. Sorry I ask .
Now, I never meant to sound like I was intolerant of Germans as a people. Classifying all Germans as 'good' or 'bad' is just as awful as being intolerant of Jews or blacks.. we're all people. I can't even comprehend prejudice. Period. There are definitely Germans that I adore, and Germans that I'm sure I would adore had I been given the chance to meet them. I was just stating the fact that in my experience visiting Germany I ran into more close-minded people than open-minded ones and thus felt quite lonely. Fuck, I try to love all people, even the people who I can't stand to be around. I hope nobody is trying to pin a big, fat "prejudice" label on my forehead.
It could be worse...They could be Russian, which would mean you'd be poisoned by now. Germans are only awkward--they just need a little more sex and they'd be cool. But Russians?...fuckin nuts!
Staying with any family other than your own would be a challange, they shouldnt have agreed to the exchange if they werent prepared for it. and I agree with Dehnus....
