Isn't poetry great, it's so full of emotion and static words. I don't always think it's better than a story but it is a nice change from reading biographies and stories. Some of my favourites are Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Jim Morrison, Daevid Allen and Spike Milligan. Does anyone else have any good poets they could share? After I posted this thread I realisd that I should of put it on the poetry bit instead of this bit so don't get mad, please. "When the rich wage war, It's the poor who die." - Jean - Paul Sartre.
John Berryman's Dream Songs is up at the top of my "published poets" list; along with the incredibly popular Charles Bukowski. I'm also a fan of Walt Whitman; but to tell you the truth; I find that it's the unnoticed poets on forums and in these zines around the web that capture that essence I'm looking for.
yeats is quite amazing. i was a patrick kavanagh girl myself. his poem advent was beautiful. but he's a typical whinJer one of the best though dickinson is amazing because you can talk for hours about what her poetry means. she is a great poet to study before THE BIG TEST and thats if you're lucky to have her come up.
Glenn Colquhoun is an amazing poet, and we did one of his poems in English class called "Lament" which was really good, and then Dad bought his anthology "Playing God" which has poems about his experiences as a doctor which are very heartfelt and well-written. And then there's my other favourite poets which are the usual ones like Byron, Dickinson, Yeats, Shakespeare... there's a lot of great poets out there.

Poetry is the words of the sub-concious I think, whereas prose is your concious mind talking. Thats why I think sometimes a song or a poem can make you cry and your not sure why. I love poetry more than anything my favourite poem at the momenet being the conclusion to 'Christabel Part 2' by Samuel Coleridge, although I also love, Yeats, Shelly, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Lauris Edmond, Hone Tuwhare and Byron.
Poetry is amazing...its so fantastically expressive, i love it...it makesme feel ALIVE, i love witty playing with words and just good solid descriptive poetry...its so versitile and pliable....i love the way poetry can paint a picture so vividly in the mind. I read poetry and can escape...i can write poetry and escape....i can say wat i want to say in poetry that i might be too shy to say in real life... its a second voice...almost an alter ego but not quite........
I'll be finishing my first poetry book soon called 'Pgmy Pyramid' and I' want some people to rate it so if I post some poetry on the Poetry page people can read and 'honestly' rate it, so I can get a rough idea whetever it's good or not, but I dont like showing people my poetry, because I get embarrased and I think it's shit.
