Hello, I was reading about these different legal highs on a website when I came across this: Ayahuasca. It says it's like a very religeous and out of body-like. I was wondering if anyone here has tried it or know anyone who has tried it. It looks quite interesting, but strong as heck...

actually, the main ingredient in Ayahuasca is not DMT, it is Caapi vine. The chemicals in Caapi are Harmine and Harmaline, not DMT. Oftentimes DMT containing plants are added as admixtures, othertimes datura relatives are, or other plants, but the ayahusaca vine does not contain DMT.

Ayahuasca, when he said this I assumed he meant the brew created in South America. With MAOI's to activate the DMT when taken orally.

I was talking about the brew made in South America. And the MAOI's (the ayahuasca vine) are not put in the make the DMT work. the DMT (contained usually in Chacruna or Chaliponga) is added to assist the MAOI's work. Thinking of ayahuasca s simply an oral form of DMT is a fallacy, although one commonly entered into by US folks and Europeans.

the MAOI's are the only way that the DMT can be orally active. Ayahuasca normally has DMT, especially in the USA. It is a synergistic effect. DMT is what typically gives the visionary state

    no...

first of all, harmine is inactive. look it up in tihkal.

second of all, ayahuasca isn't just a vine... it's also the name of a drink which contains DMT and harmala alkaloids.

dmt and harmala alkaloids feel pretty much exactly the same as ayahuasca... nausea is the major difference. the difference between the two is really just the spiritual experience of making the sacred brew... which can be significant. But, probably not anything most people on the hippie forums care about.

Tihkal must be innacurate then. Because Harmine is the most present active chemical in the yage vine used as the prime ingredient in ayahuasca. combining harmala or syrian rue seeds, which contain high amounts of harmaline can produce a similar but distinct result. Harmaline HCl, the purified chemical, can certainly also give a similar experience, however, as with any psychedelic set and setting are very important and the experience of making the sacred brew is an important component of setting. Just as LSD would give a very different experience in a CIA deprogramming chamber than it would at a rave, and both of these would be different than a trip carefully planned as a religious experience in the woods. DMT is not a drug people do because they just want to feel good or have fun, it is like LSD, a mind expanding drug (or, perhaps more accurately a soul expanding drug) and to not take into context the spiritual aspect of it is robbing yourself of a good part of the experience.
