I just ordered two cacti from a trusty supplier. I ordered 1 "Peruvian Torch (Trichocereus Peruvianus Truxilloensis)" and 1 "small San Pedro live potted plant". Im going to be growing both of them for a pretty long time (1-2 years) and was basically wondering if anyone has grown or dealt with similar cacti or if anyone can offer me some tips from experiance about growing cacti in general. Hey Jack, Get some beach or river sand that you mx in with some ordinary potting soil or catus growing soil. at the bottom of your pot, put a few pieces of charcoal to help the drainage. use a low nitrogen fertilizer at 2-7-2. usually grow the 3in top of the cactus it takes about a year for the roots to grow then the next year it will grow the cactus.
sweet thanks for the info. Could you recomend a good brand of low nitrogen fertaliser that i could order offline i have no clue of the whole 2-7-2, or if you could explain to make it a bit easier. Also, the cacti will presumably come in small pots, should i repot straight away in a bit of a bigger pot if i am trying to mainly grow the roots of it for the first year? Thanks again
yea, i repotted them pretty much 50%sand 50% topping soil, and i put stones at the bottom flower pot. Anyway here r the pics also im thinking of getting a grow lamp for them coz my cacti r indoors so have very little light
ok so i got my growlight (not for the cacti in the end). Its a 400w HPS, i put the cacti under there for like 3 or 4 hours, made sure they had been watered like a day or two before, put a glass of water in there for humidity, and now they have gone yellow. This clearly isn't a good sign. One of them shows signs of improvement but the other is really yellow. What should i do? i hope i havn't killed them coz i hear cacti r pretty easy to maintain lol. Any info would be great
Can't overwater them or the roots don't grow and they become susceptible to rootrot, hence yellowing. Starve it of water until it recovers.
