Kim was born in war-torn Vietnam
She grew up, studied hard, passed all her exams
She married a womanizer, and had two boys
Got divorced and managed to keep her poise

She started a business and was a great success
But something was lacking, to herself she did confess
She needed a partner, a man of the house
Someone better than the first disappointing spouse

She met a man from England, the U.K.
She felt she loved him, he would not betray
They got married and fit together well
She had no way of knowing what the future would tell

They stayed in Asia, the climate was appeasing
No winter snow to shovel, or temperatures freezing
Life was good, the family unit was complete
They loved each other, she felt no deceit

More than five years later problems were apparent
This man, this husband, was turning transparent
He did not womanize, he did not drink
He lost their money gambling, he didn't stop and think

They felt a change in location might be just what they need
To get a fresh start away from the problems, to be free'd
So to the U.K. they packed up and moved
The boys settled in, but the situation was unimproved

Hubby kept on gambling, he did his deed on-line
Soon the household money was really on the decline
She tried to run her business, that she brought with her from Nam
To single handedly keep the family out of a financial jam

He did not get a job, wasn't taking their situation seriously
Did he think that money would just appear mysteriously?
The landlord came a knocking, looking for the rent
It was time to pay up, or face living in a tent

Now the man turns to family to help him from his bind
And asks the housing authority if an extension for him they can find
It's always darkest before the light, an now it's getting black
Kim is wondering how long it will be, before to Vietnam she'll be heading back

I tried to tell her that things will work out, although I don't know how
"That might be far off, weeks, or months", she said, "but I am worried about now"
I wish I could save her, remove her from her plight
To wear the shining coat of armor, I would be her knight

I've heard it said what doesn't kill you makes you so much stronger
I try to console her and we guess at how much longer
She and her boys will have to stay this course without a driver
She is tough, she is smart, she is beautiful, and she's a survivor
