i wouldn't say founder but she's is definitely a contributing artist..."suddenly...johnny is surrounded by...horses!...horses!...horses!" now on the other hand, Iggy and the Stooges' self titled album is raw, powerful and innovative. i find that their sound is more punk than anything in the past 26 years or so. not only were they breaking ground in terms of punk and noise but they did it in 1969 while the hippie revolution was going on. now come on and tell me that that isn't the start of punk. listen to 1969 and i wanna be your dog and keep in mind that it is infact 1969 and tell me truthfully that that isn't the start of punk.
I love Patti Smith...I'm so excited for her new album to come out later this month (it's called "Twelve"). Apparently, she's covering The Doors' song "Soul Kitchen." I can't wait!
She's punk but not THE founder. She's up there with the Velvet Underground, the MC5, The Stooges, and the NY Dolls, particularly Johnny Thunders. In my opinion anyway.
