Do people (family members, usually.) ask you that all the time? "Why would you do that to your beautiful hair?" "Why don't you just get a really tight perm if you want black people hair?" :hysterica We had a family gathering last weekend for easter...I'm still in recovery. Some of my family was like, "That's cool, whatever floats your boat." The others asked the above questions. Oh, my favorite, "Are you going to do something with your hair, or..." right before we're leaving the house to go somewhere. egghhh. I don't feel like explaining my VERY personal reasons every time somebody asks a stupid question. So what do you say to that? I don't want to blow anybody off, but I really don't feel like baring my soul every ten minutes about why I've chosen this particular hairstyle. Grrr, it's just irritating. hehe, my brother told me that I look like the things off of Predator. I took it as a compliment. Anyway... So how do you deal with people like that?
I get the what happens when you don't want them anymore.. what are you gonna do? My Mum hates them. My husband is smart enough to not say anything. It's just the same flack I got when I went vegetarian, they don't understand and they don't want to.
^^Lol!!! At school I wear a scarf (because Im a muslim) but all my friends know I have them, they also know me too and wouldnt expect anything else. When I went vegetarian some people asked about the health "risks". I then overloaded them with the facts of vegetarianism. I went to Malaysia last year to see family and some of them didnt understand what vegetarianism was. Kinda like that scene in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
I get the same question. And "How will you get it out?"I often reply by saying "I don't know, I don't want to think about that day."The truth is, I like my hair the way it is, even if it's messy. I don't plan to get it out. But some people just don't get that. There are other people who like it though, and that's nice See it from the bright side. Listen to positive comments only. Peace
I guess I'm pretty lucky. My husband loves them, as does my fam, even my gram said, "I love your locks" I told her that was the nicest thing that anyone has said to me. My mom was skeptical at first, "Why would you want to do that with your beautiful hair", but she's cool now. The mother-in-law was a little funny, "how long before you take those out". Ummm.... no. LOL.
yeah high school is kind of a bad place to have a good reputation, luckily for me i dont care one way or the other...anyways, yeah most high school students just repeat what they hear, so most everyone i dont talk to think that dreads must be dirty and not washed, sometimes people ask me about that and i tell them that its not true, and that i wash it daily, most of the time they are just like wow and all of that. And that goes along with the- "what happens when you want them gone?" i usually tell them that will never happen "how long did it take to do that" quite awhile "can i feel them" knock yourself out "what do you have to do to them when you wake up" this...*flips hair out of face* "why did you do that, you had such pretty curls" cause now im hot like lava....and its a lot easier to manage and many many more, i get most of these about 10 times a month, not exagerating
KnottyAdam: I'm soooo glad I'm not in high school anymore! Nobody at college says anything negative to me about them. Agh, see, you already have established dreads. I'm in the phase where it looks like...crap...yeah. Oh well. *sigh* We went to the train station today in the city...and there were a few people with locks there. They were the kind you get done at a salon that are pencil thin and very very straight and smooth. So the new question of the day is "Why don't you let me pay to have them done PROPERLY? His look good." I give up. My new response is, "I like my hair." end of.
ooo i forgot that one...its sooo frustrating, but i just have to push it aside, i dont expect people to know any of this, but i think dreads are worth all the comments and questions, and i usually get a lot of compliments as well, so i live with it.
I can't wait for compliments. I know it'll make it worth it. haha, and yeah..."Can't we pay somebody to redo them and fix what you've done?" is by far the worst.
