the second pic is a flail and not a mace, a mace has no moving parts. I would suggest a two handed mace though, lots more force generated and easier to learn how to use well. the one handed mace takes more skill to wield effectively and you need to get in close...
It is called a flail? I have heard it called a boala too... I didn't think that was the technical name for it, but most people call them all maces anyway...
I was going to make the same point! Here in the US it depends on what state you are in. In my state mace is not allowed but pepper spray is. I think pepper is allowed in most states. Anyway I think that would be the least of your problems. Depending on where you plan on hiking the local wild life could be more of a danger. Also if you do not have money then you might need to know how to get food, water etc. If you are hiking from site to site (not taking the road) you have a good chance of running into other hikers and from what I here they are generally a friendly bunch and would be more likely to help you than attack you. Whatever your situation is you chances of “being attacked” on no greater that if you were going to and from work everyday or coming home from a night on the town. Best of luck to you both.
i wouldn't suggest you go by yourselves.get a bigger bunch of friends, some big fisted male friends if possible.that can prevent a lot of shit.that's what guys are for.an all-girl group is more attractive to potential aggressors.get some mace, pepper spray or whatever.i don't think a knife is a very good ideea.i don't know how good you're with one,but i suspect it's not much use against some brawler hobo. i'd worry less about wildlife than people.
it you stay at state parks it's like $10 per day, plus like a $5 or something regestration fee. It's mad cheap. I camped at a state park in Maryland before. I want to kick it in the state parks of northern cali. That would be the greatest!
pepper spray is legal in canada and I think in most states its just as effective if not pepper spray...get bear spray, the shit is meant to take down a grizzly and it works, ...it'll also take down a group of people, clogs up teh whole system... yeah but you dont need guns, you dont need mace the problem with society these days is every one is arming themselves so everyone else does ...... man all of us here need to review who and what we are , if we as men/women can not survinve withought the need to carry weapons......what the fuck is the point at all?
you have prolly been on your trip already but in case you are still planning.... first off whatever you decide to do, have a great time and be safe. regarding a handgun (working or not), it is not a good idea, if you show it to someone (brandishing) or even if someone just sees it in your bag and complains to the law, you can get arrested, sued etc... "mace" is a brand name.... pepper spray is good, but in a lot of states, you need a permit to posses it and if you do use it on someone, it is the same thing as punching them and again you can be arrested and then you can get sued again.... i am not a huge fan of the cops, but in most cases, the person who files a complaint to the police first is the person who prevails. if you have to defend yourself, call a cop and make a statement to protect yourself! traveling in a group is a good idea.....just my 2 cents
kill ourselves...what????? no Im saying not to carry weapons so we DONT kill ourselves.... you can travel safe without carying a weapon. its called common fucking sence. trust your gut it usually will guid you well. if your uneasy dont take the ride, be weary of people bieng TOO nice ...oh yeah it definatley possible to be TOO nice. be suspicious paranoid even it will keep you safe.
A non-working gun will get you killed and IMHO pepper spray wont protect you from someone hell bent on doing you harm but a Big ugly mutt makes a great travel companion
Come to Alaska: Plenty of free camping and everybody carrys a gun. Carrying a concealed weapon is a right here, no permit required.
I didnt think about that ...I mean in simple defense it would work, but spraying it in a confined space as a car is stupid, not to mention the driver would probally lose control of the car. I dont know, I hitchhiked for years and I had practically no problems, but then again, Im 6.3 with a twitch.....probally the greatest defense.... so yeah, try twitching like a crazy man!!!!
Greetings ladies, Mace may be illegal, but pepper spray is fine in most states, and cost less than 10 bucks for a 5 shot that shoots over 10 feet. You can also get pepper spray for bears at a outdoor supply store, those shoot over 20 feet. If they'll drive away a bear, a few humans shouldn't be a problem. Besides, a gun charge is a manditory sentence of 5 years in prison... why risk it? Peace and be safe.
Some campgrounds will make a deal with you that you can do a couple hours of manual labor, like picking up trash around the grounds, for a free nights stay. It doesnt hurt asking the people who work there. Good luck on your journey!
