I got this tattoo done when I was really young of a happy face daisy...I kinda grew out of it and covered it up with a rose which I really don't like and it doesn't really suit me. I've been working on my own design of a bird to cover it up with. I'm worried that the black from my other tattoos will show through my new one, some tattoo artists told me that colours will cover black, does anyone know if this is true?
Basically, the cover color has to be darker than the old color. So, with black, you're kinda stuck. However, you could have a tattoist do a design that incorporates some dark shadows or something that could disguise the old tattoo. Also, you could always laser the tattoo until it is light enough to cover. Lasering is probably the only way to cover the tattoo without just having really dark elements to block out the old. Its exspensive and painful, but worth it if it makes the tattoo something you like. Peace
yeah I guess that's what i'm gonna have to do. It's a rose and I want a bird so i'm hoping i'll be able to incorporate the pedals with the wings. I'm trying really hard to design it myself but i'll probably need some help once the basic design is drawn up.
If the old ink is a bit faded, it can likely be incorporated into a new tatt by a skilled artist...it won't get covered 100% but it should look okay. My brother had tons of crappy work on his forearms and had it covered with black/grey/color work...the new designs were detailed enough to cover the old ones. Go to a shop and ask the artists what they think...thats really your best bet. Good luck!
I have gone to a couple of artists who told me that colour will cover black, so now i'm in a position where I don't know who to trust...it is a permanent thing. I just moved out to Victoria, BC and i'd like to find a good tattoo artist to deal with but how I do that is the question
I would ask to see some pictures of coverups they have done where they covered black with color. I am skeptical because of common logic and what my (trusted) artist has told me. However, if they can prove to you that they can do a good job, yo might give it a try. Keep in mind that many artists will tell you anything to get the money. Also, coverups are harder than new tats, so make sure you go to a good tattooist with experience covering tats. Good luck, Peace
