i found this great band-Epica !GREAT BAND!I LOVE GOTHIC METAL AND SYMPHONIC METAL,as i like celts, vikings and mystic creatures and tales.Any fans? What other great Gothic metal bands can i find?
Oh yes, I know them. They're from the Netherlands. If you know Epica you probably know After Forever as well? I'm not really fond on gothic metal, but I do like some albums. Check out Theatre of tragedy - Rose for the dead. Eh well, that's it for me actually, haha. Tristania, Lacuna coil and Ashes you leave are wellknown gothic metal names as well. You might like 'em. For vikings, celts and mystical creatures you better check out the folk and power metal genre. Lots of power metal bands are actually also described as fantasy metal, because of their music and lyrical themes. I bet you like Rhapsody - Symphony of the enchanted lands or Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth for instance. Oh yeah, a subgenre that came from scandinavian folk metal is viking metal. But it's pretty different from the average gothic metal band.
Well, i'm not a big fan of Epica, although i'm a huge fan of viking, and folk metal. A few great bands are Vintersorg, Amon Amarth, Wintersun, and Korpiklaani (You would probably love this band.)
Oh yeah, saw them live a while a go. Perfect beer drink and throw partyband Saw the other ones as well, by the way, haha. I don't know for sure if the topicstarter likes them though, but another good folk metal album he might like is Finntroll - Jaktens tid. Is this viking enough?
Ohh hell yes, sorry i forgot to mention Finntroll, they shouldn't have been forgotten. Elvenking, and Hollenthon are great folk/viking metal bands too.
I don't like most folk/viking metal stuff, and especially Finntroll and companions. It's too upbeat. Only live it's pretty cool, but I prefer Heidevolk and Gernotshagen etc over the more known bands. The only true folk metal band that really matters is Falkenbach.
Agreed, same here. Finntroll is especially fun live. Only true folk metal album that matters is a bit harsh though, Storm - Nordavind is a superb album as well. And what about the first Thyrfing albums.
I don't really know Thyrfing at all. Storm is more like old Norwegian pub rock redone in a metal jacket, not at all similar to what I think about when I hear the words 'folk metal'. But indeed, now you've mentioned it, it's probably more folk (in the Guthrie, Seeger, Dylan kind of way) than anything else out there branded folk metal. From what I remember I really like the song Oppi fjellet (sp.?), but the rest is kinda nondescript.
Oh yeah, back to gothic metal: one of the most worthwile bands in the genre, female-fronted and Dutch just like Epica (and After Forever, Within Temptation, The Gathering, etcetera...) but less known, is AUTUMN. I personally like them better than the others as they seem to have a bit more attitude.
