I know this may sound vain but ive been trying to grow my hair long for about a year now after been forced to have it very short for many years. I was given the advice by a freind to have it trimmed as it would help it grow faster. The young girl that cut my hair was very enthusiastic and i ended up with short hair once again. Can anybody give me any tips to help it grow a little faster?
don't get it trimmed, unless you SEE split ends (that 's what the trims are for, and tidy ends) good diet, good sleep and treating it like you want it to stay around are starting points. Some people swear by spicy food as that increases blood to the roots. Exercise does the same if you aren't up for Punjabi hot. I'm assuming you have a typical short guy's cut. You will hit the point of "what do I do with it?" soon enough, maybe not soon enough for you, but you will get there. when that time comes, have headbands or hats or something else to help corral your hair so you don't get the urge to cut it. lessen the stress you put on your hair. Don't brush it wet (use a comb, carefully. Popping noises are breaking hairs). use conditioner as you need it. once it is long enough for a ponytail, change the position so the band does not break off hairs. Trimming does not help hair grow faster. Hair is made of dead cells, so nothing applied to the hair itself will have an effect on growth. Scalp treatments affect developing hair, and keeping dead hair moisturized makes it more pleasant. trimming takes off damage, and the balance is does the trim equal the growth? Or does the damage happen faster than growth? If you have lot of deep split ends, or splits in the "canopy" (all though the length) trimming at least the affected hairs is helpful.
I went to beauty school. Getting a TRIM (like 1/4 inch!) WILL make your hair grow longer and much heathier. Don't stopp getting trims and be fooled by those who realy dont know what they are talking about. Feel free to pm and I would love to explain anything to you.
I tried to post this earlier, but was having issues... lets hope it works this time Hair grows an average of 1/2 inch a month. Getting trims, using certain shampoos, etc... will not make it grow any faster than that. Poor nutrition, certain diseases, etc... will make it grow slower though. Make sure your body is healthy and you are getting all the vitamins you need. That is the only thing that can make your hair grow quickly. And still it takes time. As for the trims, they do make your hair healthier, and assure that it doesn't split all the way to the scalp which can hinder growth. Taking into account the 1/2 inch per month growth, you can get 1/8 to 1/4 inch cut off your hair every 8-10 weeks and still have a good amount of new growth. The key is finding someone you can trust to ONLY cut off that amount. Once you find someone who understands what you want, stick with that person. As your hair grows, you will need to decide what style you want to wear in the end, and start to have that person cut it to go with what you are looking for, so having someone who knows your hair and what needs to be done is important. Don't go to some random person each time. Makes it harder for you AND them. I guess thats it... didn't mean to get on a soapbox, but hair is my thing. I have been a hairdresser for 10 years and I guess sometimes I go a bit overboard... Hope that helped though!
