How have we degenerated to this!? Yeah, it was on holloway road - 10 minutes walk away. It all got pretty fucked up though - fuckloads of riot police came some time early in the morning (no idea when, too stoned, actually prob about 12 oclock). They all stood in formation outside with loads of vans, and wouldn't let the people outside in, which included lots of the bands. Hundreds of punks were all at the gate and we were all giving the police aggro for being such wankers, but some people kept throwing bottles, which was stupid cos they'd use any excuse to fuck the thing up, which they did. Headjam, Inner Terrestrial, and loads of other bands didn't play - the half of King Blues and the half of mouthwash that were inside played some wicked improv (no justice, no peace, fuck the police - itch is a genius), and the samba band kept going strong with hundreds of us grooving to it. Then the electrics fucked up, eventually the police left, so people could get out, but lots of people hung around til 8ish, probably later but the ket was getting to me so i went home to sleep then. It was a night to remember - a massive squat but it's fucking annoying that most of the bands didn't play. I'm hoping they'll do it again with the same bands, on not such a main road! but i don't hold out much hope - the organisers were so stressed out i can't imagine they want to do it again! I'd appreciate info bout the hackney squat - is it in seven sisters -skatejam. Cheers, j
I heard that the venue was an office currently in use? Might be why the police showed up in force....
Been away in Ireland, far from internet access, and where people speak of broadband in hushed whispers. Yeah it was in use, it was so surreal to be sitting in a room on those swingy chairs where they'd obviously had meetings a week beforehand, and we were just dropping acid, hotboxing the place, and looking out the shutters at the riot police. There's a video on indymedia of some wanker policeman strangling a guy with 3 other riot police holding him down. Brutality. Are you 'chris' on the ssaw forum chris? I'm not hardcore swp don't worry, i diasgree with simon and sam on occasion! It's interesting though, and i agree with the aim, if not the methods. Where are you based? How's it going there?
The very same chris, aye. At the end of thae day, most of the left agree on an aim, the only reason there are so many different groups is because of the methods (ie, the millitant split as to whether to work in the Labour Party or not). Im up in Scotland, and i have to say, things are going pretty damn well. We've set up a Fife group, and i remain hopeful that something will materialise in glasgow (as its a travesty not to have a group there). We've got a "troops out of our schools" public meeting in conjunction with STW next week, and we've got members attending various events over the weekend.
