So now they put gambling on VH1. It's on other networks as well, such as the sports channels where they try to pass it off as a sport. How much more does the casino industry want to push this stuff on people? Next there'll be cartoon characters gambling on the Cartoon Network and Boomerang.

i watch poker (it isn't gambling at that skill level) at the laundromat because it isn't all the other sports (my sigO is a decent player himself, and I have learned a lot about the game, so it makes sense to me)

well i don't think it is necessarily the gambling industry that is behind this. maybe but what i think is happening is vh1 whats to cash in on the popularity of stuff like Celebrity Poker Showdown thats on Bravo!

for brick and mortar players, this interest in mostly Texas Hold 'em is a boon. lots of people think they can play because they saw it on TV. And they pour lots of chips on the tables.
which is about as true as saying "I watched car racing so I can drive."

VH1 has been on a female modeling kick lately too. Doesn't seem to be much music left on that channel.

I think they put this kinda thing on is because it is cheap TV.
They have started putting idiotic games on a lot of commercial cable stations here in the UK - they generate hundreds of thousands of pounds every single day.

They will say it is because of the reduction in advertising revenue - due to more and more competition...mm yeah right.

The casino industry knows how to advertise its business. A casino bought a piece of toast for $20,000 on Ebay that supposedly had the image of the Virgin Mary on it. They'll probably use it as a promo.

The casino bought it for $28,000, not $20,000.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4034787.stm

    From the article:

"We will definitely use the sandwich to raise money for charity, and we hope it will raise people's spirits as well," said Richard Rowe, the casino's CEO.
"We believe that everyone should be able to see it and learn of its mystical power for themselves."

'Last week, Mrs Duyser told reporters the sandwich had brought her luck - including winnings of $70,000 at a casino near her Florida home. '
