So I just finished my first year in College. I've decided that before I get a degree and have a career and have to be an adult, I want to take a year off to have some fun. My friend and I are going to road trip across Canada for one month next summer. We need to know the must-sees of the country! We're basically going to stick around the trans-can the whole time, and we have some places we want to see... What I want from you is for you to brag about your respective homes so that we can have a better idea of what's out there. If you see an old 84 Chevette driving around next summer, don't be shy! We're also going to be looking for places to stay. It's definitely going to be an adventure.

Hello! The west coast of Vancouver Island is a must see.

(bring your surf board) Unfortunately the ferry over from Vancouver costs about $50 per car. Cheers!

    the Niagara region in Ontario.

There's Niagara Falls (nothing special though IMO) Casino has taken over that city, but I guess to outsiders, the Falls is nice to look at.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a nice small tourist town. Great place to head to. Many small shops.

Queenston is even smaller then NOTL, in between St. Catharines & Niagara Falls. Go to the Sir Isac Brock monument. Also check out Laura Secords home (I believe you can still go inside it.)

then go to my hometown of St. Catharines, get a bike then ride along the Welland Canal from Port Weller to Port Colborne. Or however far you can make it. Great ride, riding along side these monster ships from around the world.

if you like wine, then head anywhere within the Niagara Region. We are one of, if not the biggest for producing wines in Canada.

I should mention we're going from the west coast to the east coast. We're in Victoria and we recently did a mini road trip of the island. That riding by the ships idea sounds like it would be very pleasing to the friend I"m going with, a former bos'n with the canadian sea cadets. haha.

it's going to take us a lot longer than 5 days. we're not making a 'work trip' out of it. we're going to be relaxing, putting our hands out the windows and making ocean waves in the wind. we're going to have so many stop-overs. a lot of men (my dad, my mom's dad, etc.) hate stopping. they just like to go, go, go. we like to spend time in each place. we like to taste the cheese in farmer's markets. mmmmmmmm. we're planning on taking a month.

actually if you want to see and taste all that canada has to offer you better plan on a couple of years ..lol...a month would not even let you see all of newfoundland .i cross the country to go to work but when i'm home in the summer i take trps around the maritimes to visit and renew old acquaintents ,,if you get as far as the maritimes ,you better plan on spending more time than you planned to visit ........BUT BE WARNED ....a lot of visitor when enchanted by the charms of this area don't ever want to go home

We don't want to go home though. That's the beauty. Part of the reason we're doing this is that we plan to move to Nova Scotia if we like it. There are certain places we plan on skipping - like all of Quebec. Lol. We're just not into it. Also, Saskatchewan is gunna go by pretty fast but I do want to see the little pioneer houses my family built when they first settled here from Norway (the houses are still there in fields of daffodils). Alberta will be quick, I'm sure. Last time I was there I just wanted to get out of their real fast. Basically, we want to go and if we like the place we'll stay longer and if we don't we'll leave sooner. We have no schedule for the month. We're also open for going for 2 months if we need to. We'll be camping/sleeping in the car the whole way to save money so we could do it. Anyway that's why I'm asking for the info on places, so that we can write them down and when we go we can stop and see if we like it.

Nova Scotia has a lot of unsettled area. Most of the trans-canada is just a big road through the woods. There's a few towns along the way, but until you get to Halifax/Metro area, unless you like the woods, you'll be bored.

    While in Nova Scotia...

If you stop in Truro, a walk through Victoria Park would likely be decent.

There's a lot to be done in the Halifax area, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

If you venture off the highway toward hants county, you could check out the bay of fundy from Anthony's Park. You'd also be going through Maitland, which is a historic site in itself... (Old houses, general store, old people, lol)

Although anywhere in hants county you'll probably just come across country "folk", it's a pretty scenic area. (Once again, if you're into wildlife/forests and undeveloped land) A prime area for camping.

I can probably answer any questions you've got about Nova Scotia, I just don't really know what to say 'cuz I don't know your interests and stuff.

I know this is an old post, but I just got to it, lol.

Youve probably already been on the mountains. Avoid toronto. PEI is a hip spot, NB is kind of redneckish, NS or newfoundland has lots of nice things to look at.

oh and i highly recomend going to Old Quebec, i fell in love with that place. See the st.lawrence, chataus, citadell and the historic buildings there. Also, a cannonball inside a tree, from the redcoat days.
