Lewisham has a good muslim community. Personally I would try Finsbury Park or Greenlanes as a lot of muslims have a story to tell. It is interesting that they seek refuge in the UK but they still keep contact with relatives abroad.

Many muslims are hospitable. Infact more hospitable than the typical Englishmouse/mousette. My story goes like this. Walking down Green lanes and got talking to a few Turkish people. They invited me in for a cay and their english was good enough to understand each other. They tell me that two years ago, they left Turkey, they were born and brought up in Izmir and a lot of family resided in Istanbul and Marmaris. There were some relatives living in the Kurdish part of Turkey. Anyway, whilst in Turkey, they used to lead the muslim lifestyle. They have these five pillars and they read the Koran. A call to prayer five times a day. and then there is the fasting. Anyway, these Turkish people were saying that Islam is not as strong in Turkey and infact a lot of new generation Turks are actually improving the overall image of Islam. I was interested to hear how one man called Attaturk changed the alphabet and banned the fez and began pushing for womens rights. Now Turkey is a very modern nation with western legislation.
