Yeah, has anyone ever cycled bearfoot?

I have only bearfooted once and I haven't done it because my mum is so agaist it for some reason. I'm planning on doing it anyhows, life is for living.

Still, has anyone done that before?

i have. she might be worried about you putting your feet down in something when you stop or even scraping your toes. i've done both. no big deal really.
plus some bicycle pedals are spiky and might do damage to your feet. i'm use to it, my bike pedals are the spiky kind.

i'd say go for it. just be extra careful at first.

that'd be cool. i've been wanting to make my bike look like a purple unicorn, by covering it in fake fur.

I bike barefoot on my mountain bike all the time. My son did file down the spikeys on the pedals. Not sure it was necessary, but I'm OK with it. I biked to an Earth Day gathering at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor yesterday, and it was about the warmest day I've EVER seen here in April, so there were a lot of bare footers there. But I'm probably the only one who came in on a bike bf. I got some looks, from other barefooters. Very nice day.

Problem with the spikey pedals is not that they hurt my feet but they tend to scrape my legs if I bump into them.

I don't know about cycling but I will say my Mom was totally against going barefoot in stores and such and would raise hell every time I did for like the first 2 months. I kept doing it anyway in spite of her reaction to it and then she sorta broke out of that phaze and began not to mind in a couple months and in about a year is was something normal.

I think its pretty much like that for anyone who has Parents or maybe Roommate, partner, ect. I am sure if you suddenly do something different it will take time for them to accept it.

My bicycles are my main means of transportation, and I'm always barefoot. I don't mind the one that has spiked pedals, but then I have pretty tough feet. I've never run into a problem cycling barefoot, never slipped off the pedals or stepped in anything I couldn't handle.

Visit http://www.ridingthespine.com/main.html and check out "Goat" adventure cycling from Alaska to the tip of South America. He'll inspire you to get out on the bike trails. In the next few days these guys head into mexico on their trip south.

For me, it depends on the terrain. Riding on a smooth pathway or through the village to a shop, no problem. Riding hell-bent-for leather at 30mph down a rock-strewn, gully washed back road, I'll have some sort of protection on.

I don't know that bearfooting is such a good idea. Maybe barefoot would work, though. ;)

you could go to a home improvement store and get the gray foam pipe insulation and attach it to the pedals. I do believe it comes in 4" width. you could secure it with zip-ties or duct tape.
