That one got me too. I have to admit that if the extreme right wingers didn't exist, I would be a lot less amused. No matter how lousy my day is going, I can watch footage like this and crack a smile.

well of course, i mean ultimately isn't this just exactly what the origeonal story, the idea behind it, was really about warning us of. so of course the very interests it warns us of would wish to keep others from thinking of it.

i can remember when there really wouldn't have been anything all that controversial about it, when it was just a fantasy that in the kind of world most of us who read it were living in it seemed pretty far fetched and unlikely.

but if we were delusional to immagine that, the past six years have pretty much stripped us of any such notions. though the proccess, as such things do, had actualy started a good deal earlier then that, when fanatics started burning beatles records because they clamed if you played them backwards you would hear "satanic" messages.

actualy the burning of books is nothing new. it has often been resorted to by intrests with a vested intrest in keeping people ignorant. which is of course the inheirent evil of so called conservatism.

i'm not saying nothing to get alarmed about. it IS disturbing, and we ought to be disturbed, even concerned, just that i don't think anyone who has their eyes oppened couldn't have seen THIS comming.

young people are especially are prone to iv holy name usage and so i agree with the removal of this book from schools

maybe when they are older, they can explore such mature subject matters but until then, this book does not belong in school

 

how ironic, a book about banning books and burning of books is now on the shelf for getting banned itself.....

for what?? bad language, mention of alcohol and cigarettes, demeaning the bible?? etc?? OMG...... how ironic..... the bible has bad language, VIOLENCE, alcohol, aldutery, sodomy, and thats not bad for kids???

On the subject, I think religion itself is too mature a subject matter for a young child to have thrust on him. Christians brainwash their children while they are in a formative stage of their life. I mean kids believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus, of course they are going to buy everything in your book.

Let's see how receptive a 16 year old who is brought up in a religious free state (taught a set of morals that exist for the betterment of the world, and not because some deity tells them to) takes to your bible. He or she would probably have a good laugh.

Christianity had it's importance at one time in history but we've moved on since that point. It's time to stop believing in the tooth fairy and focus on what's really going on.

I believe in spirituality, and in the power that unseen forces have on us, but I think spirituality is best explored through free thought, and not organized religion, which by it's definition is far too entangled in political and issues to make it an ideal candidate to foster personal spiritual growth. Why attach yourself to an institution with an agenda like that? True spirituality is gained only by questioning yourself and the established order of things, not by blinding following doctrine.

 

Young minds are supposed to be poisoned... how else can they grow into jaded adults?

The simple truth is that Jesus doesn't want that book to be read by students.... Jesus wants obedience, not independent thought... Jesus is trying to correct his father's mistake of giving us the ability to think abstractly, notate those thoughts, and pass them on to others. Until we rid the human race of this clearly indecent and satanic ability, none will be pure enough to enter the gates of heaven.

 

We should ,of course,ban all books because -uh -people will read 'em n' stuff and that couldn't be good.I mean they might get --uh- ideas n' stuff.

Explain to me how I am not self aware for calling these ignorant people out for who they are. They completely missed the point of the book, and are asking for it to be banned for superficial reasons such as cursing and "talking about our firemen". I won't even mention using the Christian god's name in vain as I consider that about as offensive as someone telling me that Santa Claus isn't real.

The reason I made the self aware comment is that these people are involved in a pretty damn ironic joke, a very obvious one, and don't even realize it. BANNING Fahrenheit 451?? How can you not laugh at that, even if you did support banning the book (and your reasons for that are....it takes a fictional religious figures name in vain?) And explain to me how I am not self aware? Because I insulted Christianity? Sorry but I don't have much respect for a religion that is based on a book full of so many contradictions that anyone can warp it's words to suite their own cause. That book is any fundamentalist's wet dream.

Christianity is such a tangled mess of hate, bigotry, guilt, and over all oppression and suppression that it's amazing that anyone is drawn to it. But then again, even Scientology has it's followers. I can understand their desperation a little I suppose. I mean, the world is a desperate place, all because some selfish people don't want to share their precious mountains of wealth. Oh well, as long as the downtrodden keep praying to their rosary beads and voting the republicans into power, the corporations that are keeping everyone else down will continue to grow.

Few of them want to listen or leave their comfort zone though. They'd rather sit with their head in the sand, saying their prayers, while the corporations bleed this place dry. So shortsighted and out of connection with the rest of the planet that the price the rest of us pay does not even phase them.

Oh well, right? At least when you die you get to go to heaven, right? Suck this place dry, starve the poor, and then leave for your paradise when it's all over. Yeah the far right wing has a nice thing going. You have the economic republicans who want to do away with welfare, cut down funding to schools, and do away with any social program they can get their greedy mitts on. Anything for a tax break really. Then they go to church, put a few bucks in the collection basket, and pray to feel good about themselves.

Whatever fills the void, right?



PS Not once did I insult you personally above. I will verbally attack any institutions or movements that repress the souls and minds of people, and I believe organized Christianity fits that description. However, my problem isn't with the individuals (unless they are just dangerously ignorant and are trying to ban books). I have many family members who are deeply religious and I care very much about them. I came from a family that went to church every sunday. However, I am no longer patiently tolerating an institution like Christianity that may have done good at one point in history but has outlived it's usefulness to society and has become nothing more than a means of control. It's a ruse, a scam, and not even a subtle one.

and the firemen should should not be mentioned because they are the ones who are putting out the fire and its dangerous.
