although I haven't had the opportunity to go to the beach yet with my lovely locks, I would think the beach wouldn't be too much to worry about. I do know that the saltwater will make your locks tighten up tons! Just make sure you rinse them very good at the end of the day to make sure you get all the sand and stuff out. Have fun at the beach!! I don't think I will make it to the beach this summer :bigcry:.

i have sand in my hair.. i noticed it AFTER i had washed my hair last time. i live in a sorta sandy place though.. i figure if i had a tub that i could lay in and massage my scalp while the dreads sorta floated around a bit it'd come all out. (DAMN IT I NEED A BATHTUB!) it isn't that bad. sand isn't pouring out at all, but there is a sprinkling of it in there. was pretty bad the day i went to the beach and put my head in the sand, accidently, trying to get my dreads wet in the waves.

I've never had any probs with sand getting stuck long term, sometimes a few days after the beach I will still find a little trapped sand.. it's kinda like dandruff when you scratch, little salt shaker, lol. It always comes out and dreads love the beach. Go with it. I don't think you even need to worry about your butter.. the ocean will sort that out pretty well.

So unfair.. you guys come on to summer as we head towards winter. Enjoy!

I have just spend a few weeks on the beach and in my experience all the sand washes out easily, except on the skin of my head where the hair starts.
When I scraped my fingers on my head there was loads of sand (and probably other stuff) stuck underneath my nails.

I do not care about that though, but it might be something to think about before rolling in the sand and all that.

    I don't get the butter metaphore =/

but the beach will be fine, the floating sand in the water will not be enough to really do much, and will come out in the water. especially if you plan on showering =p
