Help me mamas....My 1 1/2 yr old has started the obsession of stickin her hands down her diaper (cloth)and occasionally eating what comes up....She'll also manage getting her diaper off in her crib (let me tell you that is NOT a good start to one's day !! lol) I've been waiting it out hoping it was just a phase. There is no diaper rash or anything "bothering" her down there. I try my hardest not to make a commotion over it, so she doesn't see it as attention..I bundle her up in onesies and button in the back pj's but she still manages... I guess an option is to strap her cloth diaper up with duct tape lol!! Any ideas???
Not sure what to tell you, my oldest son went through a phase like that as a toddler, used to "decorate" his crib and walls during naptime. What a mess! Thankfully, the phase didn't last very long! My twins never did it thank goodness!
I know a lot of people that had to switch to diapers or covers with snaps instead of velcro so that the babies would stay out of their diaper or stop taking it off. What kind of diapers/covers are you using? I invested in some pricey dipes, but I love them and they are so easy to use and wash.
I'm using tri-folds with rubber pants. I plan on potty training sometime soon and don't really want to buy something too expensive....though I've considered it, How pricey? The rubber pants have worked perfectly for both my daughters....until now~ Fortunately my 1st daughter never did this lol!!
Expensive LOL! I use pocket style diapers that run about $18 each...yes, each. I only have 9 diapers and managed to cloth diaper full time with them, but I have to wash every day. To me they are worth it, since it is still much cheaper in the long run than disposables. If you are on the verge of potty training, I wouldn't invest in them, maybe you can get her to poop on the potty instead of her diaper? Or buy a couple of covers with snaps or velcro that would make it harder for her to get into her diaper? You might find some used at diaperswappers.com. I hope this phase passes quickly, you gotta just love "poop-art". This is my baby in one of her dipes, this is a one size style that grows from newborn to potty training by Bumgenius. And this one is a Fuzzibunz diaper with snaps instead of velcro: Expensive diapers yes, but I love them!
oh boy i don't know what to tell ya. apparently I did this too when I was little and my mom just waited till I was potty trained. the only way I can get my daughter to say out of her daipers is to tell her that there's dirties inside and really teacher her what dirties are. If there's a bunch of garbage on the ground, I tell her that's "dirties", if there's mud on her hands I tell her that's dirties. She really doesn't like dirties (she gets mud on her hands and shreiks lol) so it's worked so far. When I'm desribing something that's dirty to her, I make all kindsa gross but goofy faces and say, "icky" "yucky" "blah" she's started to figure it out. but that's about my only suggestion
geeze wish I had some useful info two of my four use to do that and my lillest is only six months so I'm hoping that she won't become fascinated by it .. but really I just waited it out.. and yea did a lot of Oo noo that's dirty.. icky and well best of luck to ya =)
Think of it as a good sign, at least she knows her diaper is dirty and she doesn't want a dirty diaper on. Maybe if you try to show her a different way of showing her diaper is dirty, one that doesn't involve poop paintings in the crib. I'm lucky my son has only made the poop mess once, but his new thing is peeing on the floor when ever he doesn't have a diaper on, but this week he actually put his potty seat on the toilet so I put him up there and he peed!! He's about 18 monthes, so when we get back from a trip in a few weeks we're working on the potty. Best wishes to you!!!
A one piece onesie helps deter this in some kidos. It makes it a bit harder to upa round inside the diaper.
My mom said that my baby brother virtually lived with his hands tucked inside his rubber pants and diapers when he was a toddler. Yuck! I know of a mother who went as far as to actually pin the rubber pants right to her sons cloth diapers to keep him from dipping. If your willing to try this I would reserve one pair of rubber pants for use strictly for just the occasion, as the diaper pins will surely ruin the rubber pants in no time. How about snug fitting cotton training pants over top of your daughters diapers. I have used cloth with rubber pants on my oldest son since day one and now have a 3 month old in cloth too! No diaper diggin so far. The pinning of the pants route will definitely be an option for me I ever have to deal with this one. I would try a few things and be creative.
My mom told me that I'd pick the back out of my diaper, eat it, then eat what was in my diaper. My sister didn't, though. She said she just tried to potty train me a little earlier than usual so I didn't have crap breath constantly.
Ohh my my my girls ~ thanks for all the response. Good to know I'm not the only 1 to go through this lol! Eating it just seems so unhealthy , and unhygienic,I don't want her to get sick or anything. At least I'll have some blackmail on her come teenage years ..for what she has put me through lol!!! I think I'll try the tight trainers over the dipe.....I'll have to buy those anyhow....I hope she potty trains as easy as my 1st ~ by 23 months NO diaper!!
it's kinda funny that you mention the blackmail thing... the other day when I replied to this I was at school and my hubby came up behind me to ask what I was typing. I told him what the problem was and the girl sitting beside me was like, "Oh, I used to do that!!" Needless to say, every time she talked, Cody (dh) would call her crap breath. (they playfully tease eachother all the time, so it's all in good fun, but now everyone in the school knows what she used to do lol)
Hi kyndmama I like your name. Wow what a messy situation. I don't know what to tell ya, besides one piece outfits...or maybe over-alls? We've never had that happen here...well not the eating part anyhow LOL good luck!!!
