or you could get something to download music with and download their shows for even MORE FREE and you can find specific dates of songs when it comes to jam bands, they usually have the date they were recorded in the name, unless it's the studio version
I listion to gdradio at work because it's a continous radio stream of live dead music. And yes, I got about 30 shows downloaded for free from the intenet & friends.
if i'm really bored and just sittin around the house, i'll find my favorite GD song, and then i'll try to find the BEST live version i can, i usually end up downloading like 50 different versions of the song
actually a great place to get some awesome SBD Dead is at Dead.net at the tapers secttion....they release a bunch of special jams every week? or so....and they are great quality.....
this link has em broken down by year: http://www.archive.org/browse.php?collection=GratefulDead&field=year also useful: http://www.gdlive.com/ and of course there is always: http://www.furthurnet.org/index.php
nugs.net has like 45 Dead shows to download for free, also phish, widespread panic, moe, phil & friends, keller williams......good quality, all free...go to nugs.net and click on free stash
Before I try any of those links above, I'm just asking... is it okay with The Grateful Dead? I mean, do the members mind mind their shows being given out for free (as some bands don't mind), or are the above sites up without their permission? Just want to ask before trying them.
of course: the Dead is the link between the 40-50s jazz audiophiles who would tape at clubs and today's taper scene. This sort of relates to your other thread, but the dead were ALWAYS about live. Studio was a place to jack around and see what was possible with all the cool toys. The record companies hated the bills. (great dvd is Anthem to Beauty. Heavy Air....) the Dead knew that allowing that taping would build their following. Worked. In spades. Archive.org will not leave tapes of taper-unfriendly bands up. (so if you see it and it doesn't bother you, grab 'em fast because soon the bends will request removal and Archive does so promptly)
the dead alwys gave away their shows, had a special section for tapers. archive.org and furthernet are totally ok, not for profit. the others I cant remember if they have adds on the site, which would make em not in the spirit of the dead's wishes.
