For all my adult life, I've been a philosophical and politically minded person, but after seeing the ugliness of human nature (the violence, the idiocy, the hypocrisy, the apathy) I'm becoming increasingly convinced that it would be better if the human race became extinct. I think I could prove that human beings are essentially bad. * Saints are the epitome of goodness, and most would agree that people don't come much more evil than serial killers. There are more serial killers than saints. *There are no acts of good will that are as good as 9/11, the holocaust and the Virginia tech massacre were bad. *From the time of the Romans till this very day people have made entertainment out of human and animal suffering. If the bird flu became a pandemic tomorrow I'd toast the occasion with champagne.
Why do you want to kill yourself? Why do you want to kill me? Please don't kill yourself or me. The total good produced by the music of Beethoven or The Beatles is not more than the total bad produced by Cho? I don't think so. I don't. And why do you glorify Jeffrey Dahmer in your signature?
quit bein' a bully stayloose. to the OP-the negative is always easier to see, and it is difficult to see what use there is for it at all. it made you think, though, didn't it? you want things to be better. the easy way out is to give up and accept annihilation. maybe you could start producing good actions as often as possible in an attempt at creating this balance you desire.
Geez, this is how far puritanism and the phantasmagorical unreality of the concept of "good" can take people... Wars are "bad" becuase they kill people. And yet this Einstein over here proposes that we kill everyone so there are no more wars!!!~ Phew! Someone call the intellectual sanitation department.
To the OP: While I would never wish on you what I went through, I must say that since recieving a liver transplant from a total stranger and his family, I have a hard time being able to see the entire human race as bad. I'm sorry you put more worth into bad acts than into good. As someone else said, it's much easier to count the bad because that's what makes the news. Serial killers and Saints are not the epitome of evil and good. Not only is that impossible to measure, but you would have to know a person personally before making that judgement. That's just the way the media has always loved to portray people. Ever see the movie "Ghandi?" He was actually a pretty arrogant, egotistical guy. There ARE good people on this earth. If you don't believe me, I have a scar to prove it.
Maybe if you spend less time looking at the negative BS in the media and focus on different things you'd see more of the good in people. TV news etc just want to drip feed you a diet of negativity because that's a way to keep eveyone in fear and thinking they need the govt to 'protect' them from all the evil out there. Taken in the context of the whole of history, the negative events you mention are not actually that big. There are very many good and well intentio0ned people out there.
